I saw the Prisoner of Azkaban last night and this just came to me.

What if when Remus transforms as they are heading back to Hogwarts so does he kill Ron and Hermione as well as infect Harry.

Harry wakes up at the Hospital Wing and learns that Ron and Hermione are dead, Remus was executed immidiatly and Sirius was found having been given
    the Kiss by the Dementors.

He is then expelled from Hogwarts and has his wand snapped and sent via
    portkey to the Dursey's.

He never goes into the Durseys but decide that he can live on the money in
    his vault.

When entering the bank is he told by the Goblins that due to the rules governing the Potter Family Vault and the Trust Vault so were werewolfs not
    allowed access to the vaults.

He use the last of his money to get a room at the Leaky Cauldron but is kicked out the next day when the papers print that he is a werewolf.

Show how a werewolf!Harry tries to survive in Knockturn Alley.

Wow, you pretty much screwed Harry over royally... I'm surprised you didn't have the entire Weasley family commit a mass suicide and Dumbledore choke on his lemon drops, so they couldn't help him out..

But anyway, it's a neat clean slate for Indy!Harry. He needs some perks too if he's to survive... like conquering his inner wolf and using it like animagus form. And he'll still need some sort of help... maybe become Fenrir's apprentice, or apply to Durmstrang?

The problem with this is the whole setup is the Dumbledore issue. Rather than let him survive in Knockturne Alley he could be secretly supported by Dumbledore and develop independently from the other school kids, but with the backing of Dumbledore.
It would be a nice start for a good Dumbledore as well. I rather have enough of all the mean and heartless Dumbledores in recent stories. He would learn lots of potions, maybe even alchemy and go deep into transfiguration, all skills he would need to make some steps in dealing with the curse. He'd have a motivation to study and invent rather than fighting for his life in Knockturne Alley.

I have a bad habit of associating werewolves with those like Remus - sad, baggy clothes, grey hair, tired. If Harry wouldn't be like this - I'm interested. It is much more exciting, when Harry earns money and respect, not inherits them from some successful ancestors.

On the Dumbledore issue so did I figure that Fudge was the one that expelled Harry before Dumbledore could talk to Harry. Dumbledore then meant to talk to Harry at the Durseys but harry never showed up.

Lets say that Lily's protection spell or a spell Dumbledore cast made it impossible to track harry using magic.

This Harry would basicly, at least in the beginning be a younger version of Remus, he would then slowly learn to accept his inner wolf, not control it or be able to change at will but accept it.

By the time Dumbledore finds harry so is Harry independant enough to not blindly listen to Dumbledore and not trust him.

Dumbledore would have too earn Harry's trust again. Helping Harry train and such and during that time does Dumbledore discover that it is better to be honest with harry then try and manipulate him.

This could be interesting, you could have him survive in Knockturn Alley by getting a job in a shop of some sort, and he could gain expertise in something through that work. Perhaps in one these dark, dusty book shops we always read about, he could get a job as a cleaner or something in there, and he spends most of his time reading the books.

One problem you would have to get around is could he do magic? Or would he have to survive without it? Or will he end up saving enough to get a second hand wand from a junk shop, that lets him do some weaker spells?

I really do like this idea, and if I wasn't so busy I might well take it up.

It's nice, but I don't think his wand would be snapped. I mean Lupin, after PoA, is known to be a werewolf...but his wand doesn't get snapped. And I don't think they'd stop him from getting money that rightfully belongs to his bloodline.

But yeah...it'd be pretty damn cool if Harry went to Durmstrang (Dumbledore let him go, thinking that being a Werewolf, Harry can no longer be Voldemort's equal, and is now waiting for Neville to get marked). If you breez through his evolution into a strong, able wizard with a leaning towards the Dark Arts, and having conquered his inner wolf...that'd be pretty awesome.

Maybe have Harry come back to England looking for revenge/as some sort of vigilante taking his hatred of Wizarding England out on any one who commits crimes.

Ohhh, that is good, I get the picture of Harry in a suit, surrounded by Death Eaters, and then suddenly, he goes beastial and start's tearing them apart. -salvates at the image.- I could dig that kind of story. What kind of pairing, if any, do you see working?

-smirks.- Maybe Tonks has a werewolf fettish? But then, considering the time she is out of the question.

Harry's wand was snapped because he was expelled not because he was a werewolf.

Also I figured that in the beginning would he carry a knife with him or some kind of weapon until he had money to buy a second hand wand in some junk shop, this wand would fit him well but not as well as his original wand.
