Contrary to that, i personally don't see what the point of giving Harry different powers is, if you're not going to have him use them. Ok, maybe not like you said, to humiliate Malfoy and annoy Dumbledore but certainly don't hide them away. Use them as is necessary and don't have him loose fights with Death Eaters simply because he doesn't want to reveal his secret.

Something that puts me off immensly is abbreviations, like DE or AK or DADA or CoMC or MoM or DoM or anything of that ilk. Just write it out for fuck sake, it isn't that difficult or anything.

 

I can understand it when Harry gets special powers because he is some magical creature but it irks me when it's because he is a heir of Merlin/Griffindor/Ravenclaw etc. or then muggleborns can't something because of being a muggleborn. Rowling tried to make clear that blood is not important and wizard's talent don't depend on it.

 

I think those people who write the heir stories don't go far enough!
I'm going to write a fic where Harry is heir to Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha and Joseph Smith.

 

That quailfies as saving it for when it is apropriate.

I like heir stories if Harry actually uses his political clout. When he's just like OMG I'm Harry Gryffindor and he never does anything... ugh.
