Has anyone else noticed all the similarities between Harry Potter and the bible. It seems like she was trying to be like C.S. Lewis, but failed in the eyes of many christians.

    Some Examples:

    Godric Gryffindor: Saint Godric
    Harry Potter: Jesus Chirst
    Neville Longbottom: John the Baptist
    The D.A.: The Disciples

Was this intentional or am I just insane. List more if you can think of them.

I think it's blatantly obvious, Rowling blends Christianity with Classical paganism and just a touch of heathenism.

I wouldnt be surprised if it just happened, since a lot of shit that goes on in those books 'just happened'.

I don't think it was intentional. She can't write a book about magic then add Christianity references into it. This is reading way too much into it.

Yeah, I think she'd be more concerned with dumbing it down so that all ages could read it (and buy it), than inserting some sort of secret messages and allegories.

I don;t think I have ever noticed that, but I have never really read the bible to any great extent so.....

I don't think it is the sort of thign she would do deliberately. Hell, is she even christian?

[tone=mocking]Hey, have you ever noticed how almost anything you've ever read could possibly allude to the Bible in some way!?[/tone]

If she kills off Harry (has him die for the sins of the wizarding world) it confirms that she wants him as the Christy Figure.

  9. If that happens i wil fucking burn the damn book. How can a story about wizardry and that stuff have a hidden message about Christianity? Seriously, if she was doing that why write about wizards. Magic is bad to them, i think. Anyway, why? i Reckon Harrys just playing the good guy kills the wizard does it t=for the good of all wizard kind. hes just a nice guy.

While I don't think that JKR in anyway is trying to do this, to disregard any magical writing as being un-Christian is absurd. Both CS Lewis and Madeleine L'Engle did this quite well and intentionally.
