Hey, guys, for whatever it's worth: I saw copies of the new book on sale a couple of days ago at the downtown Indigo Books here in Toronto.

And here I thought I'd have an advantage by getting it delivered on its release day.

I'll be getting my copy by post tomorrow. Gotta love my local bookstore. I get everything a week or two in advance. But... and here's a big but... it's my exam week till next Thursday. I'm not even going to risk unwrapping it.

I've got this feeling as if I was 5 again and christmas was coming. With those tidbits of information about the Gatekeeper this books keeps getting better and better :)

If it wasn't so ridiculously expensive I'd buy the ebook (seriously $13?? that's another hardcover) and read it on the release day...

I ordered Cold Days from Book Depository, but they've been a bit hit and miss with delivery times recently. It'll either arrive on the day of release, or, they'll post it on the day of release.

Last Dresden book wasn't posted until the day of release, and I ended up uh... reading an electronic copy before it arrived, where as Changes arrived pretty much on the day of Aus release. I'm hoping they've posted out Cold Days already...but I'm not too hopeful.

I just paid the $10 or w/e it cost on kindle. I'm too lazy to try and find a good book store in Melbourne.

Following Joe's advice, i found it at Indigo last night.

I'm 170 pages in. There have been a surprising number of revelations and answers to things, and I'm completely enthralled.

In fact, if I had to choose a phrase to describe this book, it would be 'Old school.' It has the feeling of the first half-dozen books or so, but wih the writing quality of the later books.

Way to go, Butters. <slow clap>

Most places I've seen selling the ebook for preorders charge more than the hardback. What. This is ridiculous.

I'm going to buy it from a bookstore then illegally download the ebook to show my contempt for such nonsense.

My post disappeared. I'll make it short in case it re-appears.

@CareOtters I do the same, for a variety of reasons:
1/ It's a lot cheaper to buy the physical copy
2/ I have an obsessive need to collect book's I'm reading, even if half of the time I end up reading the ebook before the physical copy arrives (unless B.D got it right this time)
3/ Local Bookstores seem to take weeks to months to get Jim Butcher books in.

I remember waiting months for First Lords fury. I ended up ordering it from Book Depository, read it, finished it. Still wasn't in.

Dropped by my favored Indigo today, and while they do plan to sell it early they haven't received any copies yet.

    All of my disappointment.
I do this every time. God forbid online sales affect physical sales. What would we do with all that spare paper, time and money?

Australia is getting absolutely horrible when it comes to bookstores. These days it can be hard just finding one, at least where I live. Though they tend to be fairly good with getting stuff in.

I hate my local bookstore. They've had copies since early November (maybe earlier). I've been bugging them every week if I could reserve one book. They said they'll just call me when reservation becomes available. No call whatsoever came. Last night I bugged them again and they still wouldn't handle my reservation.

Turns out they can't handle my reservation cause they haven't decided on a price yet. :facepalm

Yeah, it's pretty bad. The prices are ridiculous sometimes.

However, buying a physical copy of the book is only an option in some countries. To give you an idea, The Name of the Wind appeared in local bookstores (I'm in Buenos Aires, Argentina) only a couple of months ago. It was published in 2007!

So while physical copies of best-sellers eventually find themselves here, if I want to read them relatively close to publishing date I've no choice but to buy an ebook no matter the price (or download it illegally).

I suppose this could explain the retarded prices on these things. I've no doubt that many other countries are in the same situation. Expensive book is better than no book at all.
