Sorry, I definitely did roll a one there D8, on a hundred sided die... where all the sides are multiples of 5... and it's weighted in my favor...

He'd pick up some of their lingo too, while he's at it. And they'd explain, or print out for him, some of the stuff they talk about.

In Small Favor, Harry mentions the Evil Overlord List and whether Nicodemus had read it or not. So the Alphas must've mentioned it or printed out a copy for Harry or something.

I've always thought of the two as different. Like, when I think Tabletop, I'm thinking about an epic 6 hour battle between my Space Wolves, some 'Nids, and the Eldar, but when I'm thinking Pen and Paper, I'm thinking more along the lines of Dark Heresy.

See that was what I was thinking, my friend has a bunch of Salamanders and he runs them against another guy's Khorne Beserkers, and then there's D&D and such which as far as I know is more focused on the actual roleplay than creative combat.

'Nids will eat your Blood Angels and use their genes to eat the rest of you.

Methinks you'd have to find more than two cost-effective units to come after me with, first. And I can always call in Necron back-up!

Tell me about it. Even in a universe as fucked-up and weird as 40k, that one bit of fluff sticks out to me as implausible. I blame Ward, like everyone else.

But anyway, derail. We should have a seperate 40k thread.

I'm having flashbacks to that time people started discussing TES lore in the Skyrim thread. Did not understand 90% of what was just said.

This is why you don't skip dialogue in-game.

If you really want to know:

Blood Angels are a chapter of Spehss Mehreenz, a hyper-xenophobic set of superhumans dedicated solely to the preservation and advancement of humanity, in a galaxy that would like nothing more than to kill them.

The Necrons are a race that sold their souls to their gods for power and were transformed into machine zombies. Which then decided to kill and harvest the souls of every living thing in the galaxy to feed to their gods.

In the latest version of the lore, the Necrons and the Blood Angels are now allies and are willing/ready to aid each other. Despite the fact that the Blood Angels are xeno-hating pricks, who were created specifically to kill shit like the Necrons, and that the Necrons are omnicidal zombie robots serving soul eating abominations that would make Cthulhu shit itself in fear.

And yea, I'm gonna stop there before I give myself an aneurysm and/or further derail the thread.

Dialogue in the game doesn't explain to you what the fuck weird, dumb shit like CHIM is supposed to be.

LOL, I don't skip any dialogue - I've got over 400 hours played of Skyrim so far and far more for Oblivion and Morrowind, so it's quite possible I've listened to almost every line of dialogue in those games. Despite that, I couldn't tell you a thing about CHIM or explain a lot of the subtler details about Talos/Alessia/Tiber Septim or whatever.

Edit: Yeah, exactly what Red Aviary said. My understanding is that a lot of TES lore isn't really in the games (or at least it's only alluded to) and is just stuff that Kirkbride has said.

Well, it is in the game. It's mostly in the novels in the game though, like the Sermons of Vivec. It's still overly complicated.

Aren't you like 2 pages late with this info? Not that I mind a reminder.

Also, no early spoilers about this chapter? Some people definitely read it already.

On topic, how long before release does Butcher tend to show the preview chapters?
