I endorse this idea! I definitely couldn't write my Daily Prophet idea in <1,000 words. Should we choose from existing prompts that were thrown out, or just throw out a bunch of new ideas specifically for flash fiction?

Fitz - your idea is staying in there. I’m not removing it. It’s tied to win.

    It’ll come up later too.

I’ll reset the votes and replace April Fools with something else if we do this.

So what’s your ‘something else’ Fitz? Give me something here.

I think a generic would be best - Humor, History, Hogsmeade, something non-specific.

    It was all a lie:
Write a story in which the perspective character has been completely misled about details of incredible consequence. For example:
    Muggles actually know about wizards.
All of history is actually fictional; it was steadily altered for the past few centuries.
Filch's cat was gay all along.

Prompt: Who was the creator of the Shield Charm? What did they do with it? How did they come up with it? How did their community adapt around its creation?

The Shield Charm was apparently known by the 15th century (according to the ephemeral Harry Potter Fandom wiki)

Tell us about the wizard or witch who first created it, and what they did with their invulnerability.

Canon has given us similar concepts: an African wizard created the unlocking charm (alohamora) who then taught it to a british expat who then returned to England and proceeded to burgle the lot of them until a wizard named Blagdon Blay created the anti-alohamora charm. Per Miranda Goshawk's Book of Spells, the spell proliferated so quickly that within a single day all homes were charmed with it.

(I'm thinking about a little bit of story something that delves into the unintended consequences of the shield charm. Unblockable curses might have been anathema before the shield charm, but once wizarding society was introduced to the shield charm? The killing curse would have exploded in popularity)

    Enchantment gone too far.

An example is Arthur's car. It became somewhat sentient when Harry and Ron pushed it too much. The theme can range from someone creating his own Frankenstein monster to the said car barging from the forest during the Final Battle and raming into Voldemort from behind.

I was thinking of a challenge/prompt thing, have the authors write a short story, but all 100% OCs, set in the HP universe, and set in their city/country.

Grabbed a handful of the suggestions out of here for the current poll - will grab the others that got upvotes next time.

Don't forget to participate! Add one prompt idea per post, and I'll add based on upvotes (and based on what the winners pick for their prompts, so that we have a variety).

Magical-equivalent of a Muggle board game. We've seen what wizarding chess is like, but what about monopoly? Go? Backgammon? etc
