First off... I've been trying to fix this by myself for around 6 months now.

Now the problem is that my PC will not connect to the internet no matter what I do. The connection is good. The cords are all in the right places. But no matter what it won't connect. Now this is the same internet that I use through my laptop. Although without the linksy's in between them. This brings up another problem. My PC cannot find my linksy's box. So the same internet just the only difference is that the one that is connected directly will not connect like the one that runs through a wireless service.

I assume that all of your drivers are up to date?

I am assuming that PC = Windows Desktop computer?

What type of network card does the PC have? Is it an actual card or is it integrated into your motherboard?

I recommend downloading a live CD that supports internet connectivity. Download and burn it to a CD. Boot from that CD and see if it you have internet access.

If you do have internet access, then we know it is not a hardware problem and that some type of setting has gotten fucked in your regular O/S.

Partedmagic is a tool that I have on hand. It is a 70 MB download that is fairly simple to use in the situation that I have described.

Once you boot from the CD and everything comes to a desktop environment, just click on "Start Network". The default settings should work. Hopefully if there is nothing wrong with your hardware, it should be able to connect to the internet.

Just... don't click on anything else that is there. It has the potential to wipe out everything that is stored on your hard drives.

You could always download a copy of Ubuntu, it should have the features that I described as well, it might actually connect automatically. The only reason why this wouldn't be my first pick would be because if the file size of it.

It could be the network adapter is dead. Try throwing a cheap PCI 10/100 card in and I'll bet it works.

You're saying that the PC's net is dead all the time, but the laptop works, right?
