I don't know if any of you have ever used an asus core unlocker, but I recently used mine -built into the motherboard, ill post specific models when I'm not using my phone- to unlock a three core processor into a quad. Afterwards, the computer refused to boot up a number of times. Once, after restarting numerous times, it said I was using too much voltage. Another time it gave me a blue screen with a pfn list is corrupted error. The computer has worked correctly for a month, maybe a month and a half after putting it together. Any suggestions?

I've got you on my ignore list, but whatever. I feel a bit bad for your situation. It looks like you're going to have to turn your quad-core back into a tri-core.

I've not taken notice of the ASUS Core Unlocker before, because I don't have an AMD chip in any of my current rigs. Have you tried just turning off the Core Unlocker? Apparently there is a switch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsRwwqzoVAU

Or you could look into resetting your CMOS/BIOS to default settings, however that's done on your system. Apparently you access your ASUS Core Unlocker setting from the BIOS, so resetting this might help. It won't do any harm so long as you know enough about your own settings to put things back the way they were. Boot Load order is probably the only one that really matters.

Some of the CPUs that end up with a core locked are locked for a reason: they're lower-bin components. Binning is the process by which components are sorted by quality into "bins", so that high-performance gear gets the high-bin components and are much more likely to stay stable. Lower bins might be able to easy support 3 cores, but have issues handling 4 for instance.

I had this issue with RAM where I bought a set of high-quality sticks and they'd used lower-bin components and it prevented me from running them anywhere above stock speeds.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I fixed the problem. For future reference, in the bios section under "advanced" there's an option called "Unleash Mode" that will attempt to activate all the cores every time you turn the computer on, and turning that off will return your computer to just attempting to start the ones already on. From there it's very simple to turn off the cores that aren't working.

And thank you to both of you that help, though to be honest I don't know why Yak had me on ignore, unless it was some ignorant, stupid thing I said in my youth.

Did you eventually get all four cores?
