No, seriously, there's a reason Paradox games get AARs rather than Let's Plays. AARs skip all of the "Holy shit, this is really boring to look at when I can't actually read anything that's coming up or really tell what's going on."

I mean, I hope it's a good mod, 'cos you fags will bitch and moan and abandon CK2 otherwise, but come on now. A video preview? Really? That's less useful than a two inch strapon.

 

There are tons of CK2 Lets Play videos on YouTube.

 

And there's tons of Twilight fanfiction.

Also, there's a lot more AARs than Let's Play videos of Paradox games, I'd wager by far.

My point was that you treating it as unusual to make a video ("there's a reason Paradox games get AARs rather than Let's Plays") is not very accurate. It is in fact very normal.

And there's one very good reason to do a video and not just an AAR: some people - especially those who are not able to play the game themselves - want to see the actual gameplay.

I dismiss the Paradox LPs as fucking crap because I have seen zero evidence otherwise. And, frankly, /you get a better idea of the gameplay from an AAR anyway/, so if that's your goal, /you are going about it in an inefficient and unintelligent manner/.

To put this in perspective: The idea that there should be a giant border fence with Mexico and mercenaries patrolling it, shooting people on sight would be pretty popular in Arizona. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that most people would support it. /This does not make it intelligent or worthwhile./

EDIT: As for your point that "it is in fact very normal"? That's just false. Compared to the rest of the fanbase, no, it isn't. I don't care that there's a thousand videos on Youtube, because there's a /hell/ of a lot more AARs. Especially when you compare shit that involves a completed game.

 

Just started playing the Game of Thrones mod today. I wish more of the world was recreated than just Westeros (because conquering Essos would be a blast), but it's still a lot of fun.

Just played as Rhaegar Targaryen and, after inheriting the Iron Throne when Aerys died in battle, I managed to put down Robert's Rebellion.

Haven't got much further than that, but it was pretty fun. Rhaegar's a bit too easy, actually, so I might try playing as a character with a few more flaws and a less fortuitous ancestry.

 

So how is the mod? Worth downloading? And can I still play Vanilla CK2 if I have it?


And can anybody here tell me what Empires are possible in Vanilla?

 

The only Empires possible in vanilla are the Holy Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire. You can play either of the mods; you just have to select one or the other when the launcher pops up. There'll be tick boxes for you to select.

 

The mod is good, but hopefully they'll eventually add Essos to the map and some more scenarios besides Robert's Rebellion. Yes, you can still play vanilla if you have the mod.

It's not possible to form new empires in vanilla, but you can download a simple mod that lets you do it. It's called Rise of Empires.

 

Essos isn't happening until Paradox works on Republics apparently according to the modders.

The mod does kinda die down after you win the war though. They need to add a pre-Aegon scenario, with the independent kingdoms still around imo, that's the best possible scenario. The War of the Five kings is cool, but as it stands achieving independence is ridiculously hard. I literally crushed everyone four times over, but they kept banding their tiny armies together and still posing a threat, I just couldn't keep up-especially since mercenaries were nerfed, Golden Company please. And if they did make a mod set in the current story I'm not sure that they could keep places like Dorne and Vale from joining the dogpile.

I started as Tywin and basically stole the Reach and then married an Iron Throne claimant and took the throne after I crushed a huge 70K army (the AI is fucking terrible at dealing with attrition), and the worst thing is that I didn't take any screenshots for the AAR. I think I'll go do it all over again and try to document it this time.

Does anyone here mod? In the past I played with "Carte Blanche" and "CKplus" which we cool. Carte Blanche made every county independent, so everyone could start with a clean slate. Unfortunately, it is out of date, and I have no idea how you update an old mod. I'd do it myself if I could figure out how, but I've never programmed anything bigger than a loop that let me hold down X.

If you're wondering what DLC to get, I'd go with Mongol Faces and Dynasty Shields [some mods require them], Sword of Islam and African Unit Pack [play as an Arab and put the boot into Holy Rome].

Get the Songs packs if you want more music. I wouldn't ever worry about the Ruler Designer, it's pretty crap from all accounts I've read of it. It does nothing which you can't do yourself with some savegame editing, and is actually quite restrictive in the way it balances your character.

 

Gah, both today and last time CK2 was on sale I tried to buy it. Each time Steampowered.com has told me:
