    Nuts. Thanks.

    edit: This thread confirms: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?615908-Arabian-Sea

edit 2: It looks like Wiz in the process of making the Caspian navigable. In CK2+, half of the provinces around the Caspian are now considered 'coastal' and have vessels; only provinces which border the central Caspian Sea province are coastal at the moment. South and North Caspian Sea provinces are not yet 'coastal'.

The vessels I played with appeared to dock in the middle of counties, like armies, rather than in the water, like navies. Also, my ships left dock and entered the center of the Caspian Sea, but then couldn't navigate to the neigbouring sea provinces, so were effectively stuck. Allowing all religions to navigate rivers allowed my vessels to travel to the neighbouring sea provinces, rivers, and via them to the ocean.

It still needs work, but it's seemingly on the way.

So I'm looking into picking up this game during the next big sale on Steam.

Is it recommended to buy every add-on? Or is there material worth skipping? I've read great things about the Old Gods, while it sounds like the Muslim campaign has issues.

You can skip any dlc that you want as they are still in the game, only you can't "play" them as in you can't play as an Republic, but Republics will still exist.

I say grab Republics and Old Gods, and maybe Ruler Designer and Legacy of Rome if you're interested. Likewise Sunset Invasion doesn't really add anything to the game besides late game content. I only just got Sword of Islam, but I'm still not really interested in it, to be completely honest.

And while we're on the subject of dlc's...

Anyone else had the scenario as a Norse ruler where some explorers are attacked by skraelings in Vinland? I'm asking because the text boxes make it sound like they are preparing an invasion, like the Astecs in the Sunset Invasion, using Norse ship technology, but nothing has happened so far.

It's not a Muslim campaign, or a Norse campaign, etc; it's still the same open world, but with heaps of extra functionality, events, and options. For example, the Sword of Islam DLC adds polygamy, so if you wanted to play the Game of Thrones mod then you'd need the Sword of Islam DLC because the multiple wife mechanic is a prerequisite for the Ironborn culture. You're also going to want Sword of Islam if you want multiplayer games, if only because everyone needs exactly the same mods and DLC running.

I'd recommend getting the next CK2 complete pack whenever it comes out. Amazon have easily had the best deals for CK2, so keep an eye on them as well. Someone will probably make a noise in this thread or in Steam Sales.

    http://www.amazon.com/Paradox-Interactive-41303-Kings-Pack1/dp/B00B7UK2I2/

Right now it's $127 [and doesn't include Old Gods], but I picked up several copies for $10 in February.

It doesn't matter what service you buy it on, because every purchase activates on Steam. Once it's activated though, you never need to launch Steam again. CK2 doesn't need it.

The minor DLC is for flavour; they don't alter gameplay:

    • Unit Packs are graphics [eg. African Unit Pack will make the African armies look more like African armies].
    • Portrait Packs are graphics [eg. African Portraits will add a lot more variety to the appearance of Africans in your game. When much of your game involves breeding your family members, and bringing in blood from foreign nations, a bit of variety can be very welcome].
    • Dynasty Shields are graphics [eg. Dynasty Shield II adds historically accurate dynastic emblems to the game].
    • Song packs are just music.

In terms of pure gameplay the only DLC I'd say is essential is Legacy of Rome for the ability to use retinues. Old Gods is good for the earlier start date as well. Other than that though, the other DLCs are purely a matter of personal preference.

As stated above, Muslim games do tend to lead to rapid collapse so that might be unappealing. However, they do have some pretty interesting events and decisions available that Christian rulers don't, so if you're into the more roleplaying aspect, you might enjoy it. In some ways, Republics are similar i.e. unique story events and decisions which can be quite fun. However, Republics aren't as unstable and can become obscenely wealthy.

Sunset Invasion is the least popular DLC, largely due to the ahistorical nature of it. It provides an Aztec invasion of the Western side of the map so that players who may have blobbed there have their own version of the Mongol threat to deal with. It's the least useful DLC, but can provide a challenge once you've created a large empire and have nothing left to do.

I'd suggest holding off on buying any DLC until you've had some time with just the base game. See what areas appeal to you; stories and events or massive expansion, then choose what DLC to buy. Hope this was helpful.

Actually your Information is a bit outdated yak.. The Ironborn use the concubine mechanic of old gods and the Targrayen use the Polygamy one.

I don't have Old Gods yet, so I didn't realise there was a difference between polygamy and concubine mechanics. The Ironborn's concubine mechanics needs Old Gods, and the Targ's polygamy mechanics needs Sword of Islam; is that right?

Technically, I think you don't even need the DLC to play it. You can raid as Ironborn without the DLC, but you can't have the Invasion CB.

Paradox are having a four day sale on Steam this weekend. Every day will feature different games.

Old Gods might be too new to see a discount, but maybe not. This is just a heads-up if you've been waiting to buy it.

Since I have the game, looking to get the dlc's.

    The ones worth having are:

    Sword of Islam
    Republic
    Legacy of Rome

    right?

Guess Old Gods as well but that one is not on the reduced sale yet. Or can I get the whole package and have only the main game as a gift while I keep the rest to myself?

Crusader Kings II Collection is 75% off at $19.99
Crusader Kings II DLC Collection is 75% off at $12.49

Both packs are missing the last four DLC [Old Gods and its Norse songs, portraits, and unit graphics]

Those three are the major ones alongside Old Gods. Honestly, I'd get them all. $12.49 is a good price; then again, $6.22 for just those three is pretty good.

Steam sales don't work that way; it comes as one lump package. Amazon packs are split up though. I've bought a few CK2 packs on Amazon and divided up the game and dlc codes to different people.

Those four are the major content additions, plus there's Aztec Invasion which adds, well, an Aztec invasion. It's as unbalanced as it is ahistorical and unless you've gotten to the stage where you can make the game your bitch you should leave it either unbought or unchecked in the launcher if you ever want to play in the western half of Europe. And then there's Ruler Designer, which is great if you want to create Chief Mutton Chops of Dublin. The rest are all cosmetic, but I bought them all last sale - they add a certain je ne sais quoi.

Never bought any music, I always play my own music in the background. There's enough folk, pagan, viking, celtic and medieval metal out there that there's no reason for me to use the game's soundtrack.

So are there any recs for mods that improve the main campaign? I've clocked up 100 hours on the GoT mod, but i'm wondering if there are any that add to vanilla outside of Prince and the Thane?

The other party's lord will send you a message about the marriage as soon as they're both of age.

Is one of the betrothed still in your court? If they've left it after they were betrothed (eg. if you gave one of them a landed title) them the marriage is out of your hands and up to the AI.
