I'm looking for stories featuring Harry as a curse-breaker; I prefer longer, multi-chaptered fics but will read just about anything so long as it's well written. Pairings aren't a concern so long as there isn't any graphic slash smut.


Some fics I've already read (and mostly liked) along these lines are:

Bungle in the Jungle by jbern.
Turn Me Loose by jbern.
The Valley of the Kings Massacre by DisobedienceWriter.

I read part of, and did not like, Harry Potter and the Cursed Summer by Mountain907.

I know of a couple more...
But curse my memory, for lack of minor detail.. such as the names of the fics.

There's one H/Hr shipped fic, where they take over the role of James and Lilly as the Fox and the Something o rather.. Selling "potter wards" only to leave them the only two people who can break in.

And another where Harry follows Sirius through the veil into an alternate reality, where harry is dead, and james and lily live - and he's followed by the stalker ghost of Ginny.

Very good story, but it might take a little while to get to the stuff you want. It's hilarious and well written.

Sounds like The Potter Grimoire and A Black Comedy, both of which I've read. ABC is a favorite, of course.

And while I do like the idea of Harry and Hermione or Harry and Sirius as thieves, I was looking more for actual curse-breaking fics. Based on canon curse-breaking if you can find it.

Actually, I can think of just one more (and it's sequal) - however it has serious drawbacks.
It features a Banished!Harry post-voldemort, and he takes up in the desert cursebreaking.

Now while it doesn't have slash, it does have m-preg =/
Cursebreaking in it to a limited degree... but it mainly focuses on the m-preg + social issues therein.
i.e. The Author trying to justify it through Harry.
I never did read as far as the sequal.

Admonkeystrator, if its the story in which Harry went to France and Hagrid joined him there, and then Harry gets pregnant as a consequence for breaking the protections of the temple his team of curse-breakers tried to open.. then I read it until I realized that Harry was really going to be pregnant and have a shit baby and x'd out. I'd like to thank you for your rec, lol, but I can't do it with any honesty.

Sesc, thanks for the rec. The summary seems familiar to me (I have, to my everlasting shame, occasionally wandered to SIYE for reading material), so I might have read it (or at least part of it) in the past. I'll be checking it out when I finish this post.

Edit: Sesc, Curse-Breakers: The Maya still holds up as a well written tale, though I wish there was more to it; maybe the author will go on a productive tear soon. Sure, it's from Ginny's PoV and unfinished, but it's got good writing and several compelling ideas. I'd read part of it before, and now I wonder why I stopped. Thanks again for the rec.

This is why I wish Jangel still updated his FFN Extender plug-in. I'm sorry, but any plot line that starts out concentrating on something as awesome as curse-breaking and ends up with drama about shit-babies is... as fucked as the head of the author who wrote it.

 

There was a story with Harry/Daphne going both back in time to the 80ies to train after the 4th year. Harry worked as a curse breaker for the Goblins for some contract time and afterwards he did it for himself. Daphne was training to become a healer/potion master. It was readable.

 

I vaguely remember that one, samkar. I don't remember the title offhand, but I remember it as readable. Thanks for the rec.
