Alright, since we're all nerds I figured it's safe at this point to come out and say that I am a member of Dagorhir. Specifically, the Realm of N.O.D and the Unit Urk Kuldar.

The reason behind posting this is to see if anyone else on this forum is a member. I know Custer is a nerd too.

Who else fights with foam and armor and acts like a man.

Yup, I'm Dagorhirrim. I fight with Clan Malice of the Far Harad. I've been florentining with short swords, but I recently got a set of leather armor and built a longsword. Pics to follow soon.

Some helpful videos, for those who are completely confused.

Nerds unite? Never really heard of this, but I was part of the SCA for a few years. Something surprisingly similar when it comes to combat. Basically, heavier weapons, heavier armor, and none of the fantasy stuff.

I did light, rapier, fighting in it. Was pretty damn cool, and a step-up from strip-fencing in my opinion. I got hit in the arm, it went away. The leg? I too a knee, etc. Was loads of fun going to the events and camping. Hell, even called normal-life mundane.

What I did. That's not me, just an example.
What most everyone else did. Gulf Wars was amazing. Thousands of scadians gathering in mock battles.

Dagorhir looks like a lot of fun, giving the foam weapons. Probably a lot more laidback as well.

Ah nice! I've known several people from the SCA who've crossgamed. Fierce and brilliant fighters all. I generally do dag because it's significantly cheaper.

Slightly? Starter fencing equipment cost me around 150. Modified armor to it cost about 75 more. (In dollars.) But the woozy was my blade. My awesome, dinted, not-sharp rapier. 270. Still got it in the corner, too. I love that bitch.

And that is on the low-end. I know some guys with fancy threads who shelled out twice that much.

What kind of fighting style do you two go for? Spear? Sword and board? Do you guys RP has orcs?

Whereas all my gear and garb has cost me about $50 so far in supplies. Over about 5 months. Also sword&board or polearms aren't fun. I either duel wield short swords or use a two-handed longsword.

Assuming that, despite what the tag says, this Dagorhir thing is LARP, then I declare it gay. I do the manly equivalent of Historical Battle Re-Enactment and also participate and instruct in a Historical European Martial Arts society. Much more fun than LARP, and much more manly.

And people were scoffing at my idea of LARPing at the DLP meetups ridiculous.

Well, now my dream of Harry Potter LARPing at a DLP meetup can come true!

Most LARPs I've heard about involved casting fireballs by throwing a colored, foam, projectile....yeah, no thanks.

@Custer. Cool on the double short swords. Hard as hell, to get right. Tried dagger in off-hand and was nice, but never that good. Was much better with a buckler. Two-handers are crazy fighting people, as is my experience watching them. They usually charge in swinging, taking their opponents out in a single strike.

    I is an Urk Kuldar!

But seriously I'm an orkz and I fight either LongBlue which is about 40inchs and under 24oz with a shield (kite or coffin) or with a Glaive.

@Mordecai: It's not larp. It's battlegames. There is no RP necessary and all you do is fight people in "scenarios" a la paintball. I dress as an ork because it allows me the freedom to not be a stiff, arrogant ass. I get to fight however the hell I want because of it, and yes it adds a small RP factor but nothing that gives you an advantage on the field. The only advantage on the field is experience in my opinion.

@iLost: did you have kick-ass armor?

I'd love to do something like this, but I've sadly never seen anything in my area of Australia. Seems like a lot of fun.

@Riley Poole. Sadly, no. By the time I was getting heavy into it, my knee started acting up real bad. (I hurt it pretty bad in strip-fencing with my lunges.) So never really got to the financial part where I wanted to invest in some nice digs.

Ex-wife had some cool shit though. Had a green and white affair which was designed around an Iguauna. Was pretty bad ass. I just had standard modified fencing outfit. Trigger armor that was black and constricting. It was hot as hell to wear in the summer time.

It seems Dag is pretty laid-back from the posts here. Doesn't seem like too bad an idea. SCA could be pretty tense, unfortunately.

It can get intense when you're in the heat of battle, but because of the fact that one of the three Dag trinity is safety; most of the time it's fun more than trying. My unit likes to call it a sport you can play without trying. If I go to Rag I'll see if I can get some video footage. I've heard it can get crazy out there.

Nope. Even fought through an event at 116 degrees in full garb. They're also the unofficial leaders of the group.

Some of the technique visible in those pictures is utterly cringe worthy.
