Call me crazy, but hasn't this been in the news 5 times last year already? I feel like we've heard this before.

It's been rumoured, but Affleck has actually confirmed it now (or at least, he shared an article that said he probably wasn't going to be in the next Batman movie as it'll focus on a younger Bruce, and commented that he's looking forward to seeing the film).

I think it's a bit of a shame, to be honest. I haven't really enjoyed any of the films he's been in so far, but that's more about the writing than the performances. He and Cavill have both been ill served by the series, IMO.

I liked Batfleck in BvS (the general retardation of the film notwithstanding). I even liked the Martha scene because it actually works really fucking well---if Batman doesn't kill. The way Bruce spent the movie justifying it to Alfred really seemed like he was justifying it to himself. "You're not brave. Men are brave." Damn, but that was a great line in an otherwise bad movie. The warehouse fight was great, only it doesn't work for the Batman who just came to terms with Superman's humanity.

Batfleck did a great job in BvS considering he was forced to play two different Bats: one who doesn't kill, and the disullusioned bitter Bats who had probably lost a Robin and broke that rule.

So, even with terrible material, Batfleck did well. Then in JL Batfleck spent the film sleepwalking, but even the combined acting chops of Daniel Day-Lewis and Meryl Streep couldn't have done better with the steaming shit that was Batman's role in JL.

God, every time I think back to JL it's even worse. What an absolute irredeemable trainwreck of a film.

I can understand if Affleck himself wants to distance himself from the DCEU and potentially regrets signing on in the first place, but I don't understand the criticism he receives for his role. Imo, he actually works really fucking well as Batman when he cares to do so (which he often doesn't).

I hope that this doesn't mean that he'll be gone in future iterations of present-day Batman, but I understand that this is probably a vain hope.

I think it's less criticism against Affleck himself than the atrocious scripts.

Robert Pattinson is being rumored as the next Batman.

Honestly, that wouldn't be terrible casting if they went there. I mean, it probably wouldn't be great, either, but I could see the potential, at least.

I saw Ben Barnes named as a potential Batman. For those who don't know him, he's Logan from Westworld. I dunno, I could see him as Batman. Otoh, I also saw Jon Hamm mentioned and honestly, I was all aboard for the idea of an older Batman in the DCEU, even if the execution has been bad. I'm really out for superhero origin stories for now, which is also part of the reason why I enjoyed Black Panther's and Spidey's introductions in the MCU.

Pattinson though? He just doesn't have the look or the presence for Batman imo. I haven't seen anything he's done since Twilight and Eddie Sparkles just doesn't mesh with Batman in my head.

I'm not sure how he'd be as Batman, but Robert Pattinson is absolutely brilliant in the film Good Time. He can be a great actor when he's given good material.

Jon Hamm would be good. I also saw Oscar Isaac suggested a while ago, and I could really get behind that casting too. For a younger Bruce, I actually like the look of the kid from Gotham, although I haven't watched it in years. I think he's probably the only actor under 30 you could rule out though, to be honest.

He'd do really good for a Year Zero bruce; i've loved him in the role, but definitely won't get the position.

Shazam was a solid movie. Funny and had a decent story.

Really enjoyed Shazam. It's the best movie DC have put out since The Dark Knight. Great fun, a lot of heart, and a typically good Mark Strong Villain performance - better than half of Marvel's villains, tbh.

I'd put Wonder Woman over it, but Shazam easily tops Justice League/BVS etc.

It's a close thing, but I felt Shazam maintained the quality throughout the film, whereas Wonder Woman sagged a bit in the end. It's definitely on another level to BvS, JL and Suicide Squad though.

I'm optimistic. Going from a wizard to a vampire to a dark knight, he'll have some range if he pulls this shit off.
