This trailer did nothing for me.

 

This trailer showed a ton of stuff I don't recognize from the original, so at least that's a positive.

 

Well, I'm not going to pay for it, but I'll watch it.

 

One would hope that adding a couple extra hours of material that was edited out of the first movie would consist of stuff you hadn't seen before. Let's just hope that it isn't using 'Rule of Fanfiction' where 'It's not very good, but there's a lot of it, so that's... good.'

WB intents to reboot Superman with rumoured Black Superman which surprised me a lot. I'm guessing it's not going to be Clark Kent, but Calvin Ellis. The problem is, while it's a fun character who is the POTUS, he's not really a fan favourite. He's not Miles Morales who was established in the comics when he got his movie and I'm not sure if WB is aware that they will need to work to promote this character.

Other thing, fans complained a lot about DCEU, but Henry Cavill's Superman was generally liked and most wanted him to finally have a film that would be liked by most. For this reason, they already complain about the reboot creating a bad atmosphere for the film that basically wants to get away from the previous complains.

 

Is it confirmed to be Calvin Ellis? It could also be Val-Zod. Although with Ta-Neisi Coates as the writer I'm thinking it's Calvin.

Let's see how the news develops. I think there is a lot of potential for either character. I'm just not sure what this even means for future DC movies.

Ta-Nehisi Coates is a good writer, and it's statistically unlikely that anything they produce at this point could be worse than Snyder's Randian didn't-understand-the-characters dogturds.

 

Because DC desperately wants a cinematic universe instead of focusing on what seems to have been working for them across the 2020s: standalone films (their slight connections notwithstanding). WW/MoS were fine, certainly better than both teamup movies, and Aquaman was fantastic.

Why would they do this instead of the infinitely cooler character, Icon (literally just Black Superman but with a civil war era life on earth origin instead of rural 20th century midwest)? They've got the same power set basically, and if successful it could lead into Rocket and Static Shock.

DC has literally no fucking clue what to do with themselves.

 

I don't think it will matter much how they will spin the new Superman. I think they will have a lot of trouble as it will be perceived as race-bending Superman. I can already see the right putting out so much shit on this project and middle America turning against it. Plus JJ Abrams is in charge... which is a definite minus in my books. I really don't see this movie doing well at all.

 

$10 says it never sees the light of day, and is shelved as Warners retools DC.
The only way I could see it working isif they went full on Elseworlds and crossed Ellis with Kent and two or three others and basically had a Justice-League-but-only-Supermen movie. And Doctor Strange 2 and Spider-man 3 (if rumours hold true) will beat them to that sort of deal.

 

I'm not going to claim to have read every single article on the subject, but the only things that have been confirmed so far as far as I can see are 1) that it's happening, 2) that it's being written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, and 3) that JJ Abrams is producing. Anything about having a black actor seems to be coming from unnamed sources at most, which isn't exactly reliable info. The only mention I've seen of Calvin Ellis is in this thread. I'm happy to be corrected if I've missed something, and obviously I'm not saying none of this is going to happen, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
