My source is in Sweden but the general idea is simple enough:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt.1 will NOT be in 3D. Warner Bros feel that time is to short to convert the movie due to them having high "quality standards".

Pt.2 will still be showed in 3D though.

Personally, I'm elated. 3D is a bad gimmick that I hope goes away soon. When we are able to watch movies in true 3D, meaning we won't just be limited to arrows shooting at us, then I'll start watching those movies.

Nice! I'm not sold on 3D in general, but the 3D conversions are the worst, anyway. Maybe they've gone back and looked at how badly regarded the 3D conversion of Clash of the Titans was, and decided they didn't want a repeat.

I wasn't going to go 3D anyway, but yeah, there's some work to be done before 3D becomes better than 2D.

The problem for me is that it's not really 3D -- as in, the objects/people don't jump out of the screen. For example, I remember being a kid in Disney and seeing a Terminator simulation somewhere. I remember that she-bot blowing to pieces and then the parts of mercury-like liquid slowly gathering and forming a human again. The point is those piece seemed to come from behind the viewer, practically cruising right past your eyes.

The 3D I've seen in movies is more of a depth of the screen, rather than the objects flying out of it.
