What is your number one reason for why you feel you don’t always fit in with the rest of this group?

Mine, I’m not really a Ginny hater. I actually I kind of like her.

 

Well, no one is perfect.

As for me, I don't really enjoy ultra-sick stuff, with Harry being really, really evil bastard who relishes in destruction.

Harry the sick bastard fighting for freedom (Scorpion Sorcerer) = Cool.

Harry as a death eater or working with Voldemort = Not my thing.

 

It's good for now.
Killing death eaters and having revenge on those who wronged him = OK
Turning into dark lord who kills people mindlessly and has marked followers = no thanks.

I can remember only few Dark/Evil stories I really couldn't handle, and they all had Harry either go completely crazy (Harry's madness) or join Voldemort (all those Harri-as-Voldemort's-apprentice stories).

I also don't mind Hermione, at least not as much as Ginny.

My main problem with her is her tendency to think instead of Harry - I love stories where the main character (Harry) is a smart guy, and not just some mindless enforcer who has to rely on his girlfriend to make study plans and explain things to him. Too many powerful!Harry stories make him into some character like that.

 

I can agree with that. I probably don't fit in because I also don't hate Ginny or Hermione outright, as in don't feel the urge to bash either as soon as I see their names. But then, I think I can write a pretty damn good bash-fic for both of them.

I can deal with almost all kinds of Harry as long as his progression to darkness is written or at least partly psychologically explained. Same goes for LV or evil/manipulative Dumbledore. Whatever evil/vile act that is committed or exacted in vengence, I prefer it when it's finessed and meticulously planned rather than it being spontaneously done.

 

My dark secret that I like some of the stroies where Harrys brother is thought to be the BWL and not Harry.

 

That idea is interesting in theory, but I honestly have yet to find a story of that genre that is really good, not just OK or barely readable.

I'm not picky... I will read anything... so if you're complaining about it, I've read it before. Doesn't mean I liked it all that much, but I read it.

Ooh. Another one. I have a new favourite pairing for each day of the week, then promptly get bored of it. No, not all are het.

Agreed with IP (that seems to happen an awful lot actually).

I don't care for sick/evil!Harry or Harry as D.E., Voldie's apprentice/heir etc... but dark!Harry doing the dirty work that has to be done = A-OK.

Most of the brother is the BWL fics are all about abandoned abused unloved Harry, which just doesn't interest me. As a small part of a larger story, I can overlook it, but too many of the other-BWL fics make Harry's neglect like 75% of the first 20 chapters. And I don't like watching people get raped any more than I like reading about them getting abused.

But my deep dark secret? Err... it's not that deep or dark, but a lot of times reading through these forums makes me feel old and sometimes even... mature. Two things that don't exactly sit too well with me.

Like I'm all for ripping on shitty fics, complaining about how much they suck here on these forums (and keeping the anger and frustration on these forums), but posting flames to the point where the author can't stand it and she removes her fics? And calling it a success when you ruin her day and destroy her creativity? Just doesn't seem right to me. I don't usually like the fic anymore than anyone else. But it doesn't hurt me or bother me, just sitting there unread by me.

And I like the idea, that somewhere there are forums all about slash fics where they rip on all the crappy gen!fics or dark!fics for all the same reasons that we like those stories.

If there wasn't so much crap in the world, it wouldn't make me appreciate the good stuff. And if that crap is good stuff to someone else, all the better for it. Still is crap to me.

But yeah. I'm too old for here. 28 for those wondering, and I know it's not the oldest, but it can feel like it. /me sees lots of 13 year olds and realizes I'm more than twice as old as some people here. Eeks.

Seriously, this is the only forum that I know of dedicated primarily to HP FANFICTION... of any kind. All the others are more or less about hero-worshiping JKR and sprouting crap about canon-related HP stuff.

My secret is that I don't care for Harry Voldemort's apprentice or joining the Death Eaters.


I like Harry to be Badass, but EVIL I never like (unless he's crazy or something. Just being a bastard doesn't interest me.)


I've also NEVER flamed an author. I wrote my reasons out in bad fanfics, but to me pretty much, I have a live and let-live philosophy.

 

I agree, and I have said it before that we should be nicer when reviewing fics.

Usually the fics that end up here aren't too bad. And we don't want to scare people away.

Same here. The only problem with dark Harry is that authors make it too black and white. It's not that hard to justify the killing of the devil. But it follows the rules by the world JKR created so... I would like to see a fic with a little more reality, but than it would be AU, or you get a cry baby Harry(And I don't want to read that).

My main weakness it that I like “And They Lived Happily Ever After” endings. So the category I like the most is Action/Romance.

i'm not much for sadistic harry.

i like a strong influx of realism with regards to fiction stemming from canon.

meaning, right now harry is NOT a strong, confident character. i like fics that give a plausible progression that creates a strong, independent harry.

also, i like hermione.

not hermione with ron. not hermione in HBP. but i like the kind of friend/potential girlfriend that a hermione can be. girls with brains are hot.

and i really dislike ron more than i dislike ginny.

 

i'm indifferent about ginny.

yup..that's about it.

 

Sometimes when I see an awesome summery for a.slash story I will read it.

To this day I regret reading every slash story iv ever reed but I still read them sometimes because the story idea is just so damn cool.

An example of the last slash story I read.

The Myrmidons

Summery: Hagrid never had the chance to bring Harry to Dumbledore, instead he was given to the Aurors and raised in a secret training program. Now, when he should be starting his seventh year, he steps for the first time into Hogwarts... Slash. HarryDraco.


Starts out Draco wandering down the Ministry corridors contemplating his deepest secret….he’s still a virgin. Apparently all the other slytherins found out at the end of 6th year and laughed at him. Hurt his feelings. (I was fairly disgusted at this point, but for some reason I kept reading anyway)

*Cut scene*

Harry is walking down the same hallway. He contemplates his history, it was sadly a very interesting history. You then figure out that he is built like a Greek god and that he is the residential bad ass / dark wizard hunter of the ministry.

Draco and Harry run into each other, felt each other up a bit. They instantly have the hots for each other.

Harry then leads draco into the bathroom removes his pants and bends him over the counter…I stopped reading at this point.

You want to know the worst part about that whole story? Is that its just so much wasted potential, if it was any GIRL besides draco this story would have been great.

 

Here is why I don't fit in here:

#1. I too am a closet Harry/Hermione shipper even though I HATE what has been done to her character in Fanon.

#2. Though I believe in a natural progression of Harry's character (Independant! Harry), I do not believe in a Darksided Harry. I can see him embracing the grey area in between, but I can't see him going evil as shit. I figure that if being abused since he was a couple months old didn't turn him evil, then a few extra months wont either.

#3. I have been told that I am on the obscenely perverse side of the spectrum of personal opinion.

 

I guess it's just me Vash and Sera in the pairing whore boat. . .
