Eh, I know what you mean. I mean I keep meaning to read Matermind Hunting and many others. On a sde note, it's not Harry/Tonks and not written by Egyptian Flame (anymore).

I agree, it's not really that I don't like Dark Harry, it's just that I've almost never seen it done well. The fic's either badly written or has a terrible plot, or both. Meh, I suppose you could say that about most genres of hp fanfiction.

 

You should've at least had Tonks end up with Lupin before it turned into this big soap opera!

 

This thread isn't about my fic but I've got to defend it.

1. Are there battles in soap operas?
2. The 'teenage drama' ended about 6 chapters ago :roll:
3. Tonks+Remus, James+Lily, Alice+Frank, Harry+OC -> too much romance. I don't want to be accused of CSD - Convulsive Shipping Disease; when an author decides all of his/her characters will get a soul mate
4. Tonks would've ruined the balance and atmosphere. I shouldn't have put her in in the first place, my mistake.

Just to enforce that, I have a couple of other dark 'secrets':

1. I don't like Honks at all
2. I'm a sucker for those 'Harry grew up on the street' fics. I know they're usually poor and almost never get finished but I just really like them.

 

1) Passions: Even has a witch and a midget!

2) It got better after the whole p issue, although it was weird he didn't make a bigger fuss about it (not that I'm complaining, although I am )
3) Well obviously everybody finds their soulmate when they're 17. It did seem like you were going that route with Honks at the beginning... You said people were complaining that Harry would have 5 relationships over his last 2 years, frankly I'm surprised it isn't more. Not expecting him to be Sirius or anything, but only one relationship every 5 months is unusual. It's probably because I'm a sicko but I wanted to see some hot hot Harry+Lily loving. And maybe Harry causing some nasty things to happen to Wormtail.
4) I thought it was good to have her in considering her help with training Harry, especially with Occlumency/Legilmency. I like her in canon (no lines, which is good for JKR's female characters because it means she can't ruin them), so I was disappointed to see her die in such a shitty way (no dying words or anything )

As for "Harry grew up in the streets" fics, I haven't read any QUITE like that but there was a decent one where he was found in an alley and adopted by the mafia. Each story is a remake of the books, but the author is currently rewriting book 3.

Harry isn't a gigantic sissy, which is good, but he's also this skilled assassin at age 11 (which is a pet peeve of mine).

The Blood Prince series gets a meh from me. Never could get into them. They're not bad, but they just don't appeal to me for some reason. Maybe it's my utter disdain for Snape. Water Mage's 'Potter' and sequel are the only Mafia!Harry stories I've ever found to be really good.

 

Anytime a fic makes Harry a badass yet doesn't make him Draco Pt 2 gets a thumbs up in my book. I don't like Snape either, so I hate it when he all of a sudden becomes best buddies with him after despising him for 5 years, but I don't mind it when he's civil to him (either after he becomes powerful, or in AU like this where he's just meeting him and doesn't have a chance to hate him yet).

 

Oh! I know it isn't written by Egyptian Flame anymore. I never got back into reading after you picked it up. I saw the fact you were cutting out the Harry/Tonks and I threw a little fit and decided to come back later and..well, never did. Really, how stupid do you think I am? It says you write it in your signature! I was mentioning "The Other Side of Hell" because that was the one I thought was a "Dark-fic". I think he was studying a lot of dark/questionable spells down in the CoS, wasn't he? Yeah, goes back to my "Dark vs. Grey" misclassification.

 

Do you know that the genetically difference between a man and a woman is also 2%. Quite interesting really.

Just one question, does Harry keep sprouting wings and other demon shit? I'm not a fan of vampire Harry, werewolf Harry or demon Harry i'm afraid. If it's only occasionally, then it's cool.

 

Well...he has the wings permanently. And he is demonic and has something akin to veela powers. I can probably tell you now that this fic isn't going to be your cup of tea, but feel free to look over it and judge for yourself. Honestly, I'm not even satisfied with it these days. It was my first project from when I was a wholly novice writer, and it has what I view as bad plot devices interspersed everywhere (ninjas and shit). The only reason I don't abandon it is because it has a boatload of readers who would throw a shitstorm if I did, so I feel obliged to at least try and finish it even though I almost have to force myself to write it these days.

 

Heh, I feel your pain. It feels like writing OSOH is work now. I just wish the last few chapters would write themselves *sigh* I remember a time when I could finish a whole chapter in a day... now I struggle with 1/2 a page in 2... But I can't abandon it, not an option. I already did that with Freelance Hero, don't want a reputation now do I? Especially now I'm sooo close to finishing it.

I definitely will look into it again though, so many people have recommended it (even RossWrock).
