That's right. There is an actual DADA course ON THE WEB.

It's pretty cool. The author invents several spells that you could use in a fic.

The site has a nice appearance, and I can access the ring with the runes. But when I try to delve deeper into the site, I permanently get 404 errors "xyz.html not found at this location" :(

    Interesting.

As Dark Minion has already expressed, the site looks reasonably professional. However, most of the links in the Flash rune ring lead to error pages, save for DADA, the Journal and The Library. The runes in the 8, 9, 10, and 11 o'clock positions are not, in fact, links.

It doesn't look like anything's been updated since 2004, so it looks like, in the immortal words of our own nonjon: "Abandoned like a pregnant girlfriend. That's not my baby!"

Yeah, the website was abandoned, but the DADA is still up.

Has anyone made a spell thread in the site? That would be a good addition- An Author - What word am I thinking of? Well you guy's most likely know; A sub section for writer's where they can take spells, information and such so they can write a higher quality story.

  6. Hello - I'm the creator of the Defence Against the Dark Arts Course - it's been online for about three years, now, and I've been meaning to add more to the site, but a lack of leisure time (I've also been running an HP roleplay hogwarts_live on Livejournal) and a full time job mean that I've never completed the website, which was intended to host a variety of HPverse information, fiction, essays and so on. The DADA course, which I originally ran on an MSN Group called Hogwarts2001 Mess Hall, was played out through message boards, and it's only on The Stroppy Professor that I set it up with self-assessment questions so that people could undergo the course under their own supervision.

I'll have to check - the email on the course is probably out of date, and changed to cyriussnow@hotmail.com after I changed my ISP.

If anyone wants to use curses or concepts invented for the course (I don't, of course, claim to own anything from JKR's toybox), they're very welcome to do so, although I'd like an email from you first so that I know where it's being used, and brief credit - a lot of time went into writing the course.

Edited to add: I should also mention that I have very little knowledge of HTML or Flash, which has been a significant hindrance in making progress with updates. I've taught myself as I've gone along and I would be the first to admit that I've been overambitious with the design.

In conclusion, I apologise for the incomplete nature of the website itself, which I may (given sufficient time) update or at least remove the inactive portions, and for the time being, I will continue to pay the £70 or so yearly fee for hosting, so that people can keep on playing with the course and reading my rather rambling lessons.
