How the hell would you pull it off, though? I mean I can only see one way:

When Nick takes Ivy, he doesn't do it in the overt and showy way, and leaves Marcone alone. Tells Lartessa to fuck the hell right off, nabs Ivy, leaves a few red herrings to pin it on Marcone, Dresden gets out the big guns, fucks over Marcone and by the time he figures out that it AINT marcone, its too late to 'pologize.

But the problem with that is Marcone is protected under the Accords, and Mab takes that shit kind of serious. Kincaid is a thorn as well. Never mind the fact that you'd have to find a way for Dresden to take on the mob, get the bitches to respect him (Or fear him if you prefer) to let him take over, save Ivy, fuck the Denarians and be back in bed before his moth... oh. right. Wrong story. D:

Or you could take a different path from the start. Give Dresden a harsher attitude, maybe one similar to what he had in BigD's fic (you know the one I'm talking about). During his time as a PI, he gets mixed up with the gang wars as Marcone is taking over. He might join up with Marcone or events might lead to him forming his own faction if he was drawn into the fight the right way.

    /strokes beard thoughtfully.

I never have much expectations when I'm about to read a fic that I know is more of a guilty pleasure. We all like doing things for the lulz.

I love reading a serious story that has deep characters and intense, gripping situations. But sometimes I just wanna sit back, relax, and read something that's easy on the brain. At least that's the appeal of guilty pleasures to me.

This entire discussion makes me giggle, a little bit, on the inside.

Fanfiction is always a guilty pleasure for me. Maybe an addiction. It is the end product of a bunch of obsessed amateur to semi-pro writers who obsess over an idea. The source belongs to the Science Fiction or Fantasy genre, often Young Adult as well. Then, this crazy fan takes the original characters and world-building done by other writers, and jiggles the whole thing around a bit. And then, I ACTUALLY READ THE STUFF.

There are exceptions to the guilt. Alexandra Quick, or The Skitterleap, or maybe Lords of Magic are able to get around this, kind of. Anytime someone gets around to building the world from a set of fragmentary rules is enough to allow me to say: yeah, I read that. But just about everything else has a tinge of playing around with someone else's toys.

Not to say that the stories aren't art, or personal expression, or even entertaining. That isn't to say that I don't spend far too much time trying to find good ones. I read clopfics, for god's sake(now there is a Guilty Pleasure). But fanfiction is definitely not something I'd bring up in front of a girl I'd want to sleep with, ever.
