Since I quite literally threw the book out a window when I read it, I don't think I'd enjoy spending money on a movie based on said book.

DH was almost completely fail from the beginning, and I have no desire to see it, especially considering the base demographic who will likely enjoy seeing DH is the same group who are excited to see the next twilight film.

    I'll go see it. Don't see why I wouldn't.

I won't be dressing up, though I'd like to see what other people can put together. I bet that half of them will look like cheap Merlin's.

It'd be worth it to see those few that actually put some effort in their costumes. I always enjoyed(watching) well-done cosplay.
Who plays adult!Harry? (The answer will decide whether I'll go see it or not).

I believe that would be Daniel Radcliffe.

I still haven't seen Half-Blood Prince. Honestly I've been fairly disenchanted by the movies so far. The first two were cute in a "Oh isn't neat they made Harry Potter into a movie" kind of way, but I didn't enjoy 3-5 very much outside of the novelty of going to see "Harry Potter."

I guess I should rent HBP or something.

On another note though -- OP. I hope you and your friends enjoy yourselves. Were I younger and had been caught in the Harry Potter craze as a kid instead of beginning to read the books when I was 17-18 (when only up through GoF was out) I would probably have a ton of fun doing just what you are.

So have a good time. Don't let the rest of the forum get you down.

Cheddar: Strangely enough, Half-Blood Prince is probably the best movie of them all - except the first two. The acting is a lot better than 3, 4 and 5. I thought so, anyway. Less awkwardness. Also, Harry has some good lines. It's weird, since the book is so terrible.

Also, watched this yesterday. A small fight scene from Death Hallows.

Seriously? I thought it was the worst, by far. They cut out any and all explanation for how shit worked, trimming it down far too much for it to make sense. The acting was better, but the movie was worse.

    Video no longer available.
I kind of agree with that, though not completely. I believe that HBP the movie was the single movie which best followed the book, but since the book was crappy, the movie was also crappy.

Like what? Silent casting? It had already been used in the movies before - watch the fighting in OotP. They don't incant their spells. It's mostly silent. When Harry and Sirius are fighting Lucius and another Death Eater, no spell names are used. All silent.

The vanishing cabinets... I can't remember if they are explained in words, but the few scenes we get of them show exactly what they do and show us what Malfoy is planning with them. It doesn't take much to figure it out - the person I saw it with hasn't read the books and they knew what was happening.

There wasn't really much left out, simply because there wasn't much to leave out in the first place.

The thing is, it probably felt better because like Republic said:
The book happened to be shit, however. For whatever reason, I enjoyed watching it alot more than reading it and I enjoyed it alot more than movie PoA, GoF and OotP overall. Those three movies had better scenes - Harry riding Buckbeak, outflying the Horntail on his Firebolt, Dumbledore and Voldemort dueling to name a few - but everything else in those movies didn't feel right.

As a package, Half-Blood Prince flowed a hell of a lot better.

Quoted for truth, and I liked OOTP way more than HBP book-wise. The HBP movie rocked though.

I personally still enjoy Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets, but the everthing after that is just plain terrible in my book. The acting was bad (what else can you expect from child actors) but they had an amusing element that the rest really lacked.

I was forced to cry every time people transformed into smoke and flew around. The attack on the Burrow was particularly agony inducing, from the fact that it never happened in the book to Ginny heroically leaping through the flames. And the smoke. Goddamn that flying smoke creature people effect. Honestly, if they had taken about 50% of the money out of the special effects budget and put it in the "actually reading HBP and knowing what happened and what didn't" department, I would have liked the movie better. But Tom Felton made it all OK.

I rarely do let this forum get me down. In fact it gets me high. It's very Darwinian around here.

First meeting with Schadenfreude was a bit of a fail (we didn't recognise each other) but trying again in central Melbourne next weekend.

I'm going all Danger-verse and having a sleepover in a den for DH. 8 or 9 teenagers in a big pile of mattresses, blankets and pillows. Probability of getting kicked in the head while sleeping = Extremely high.

Interestingly enough, the morning after I'm going to an equal marriage rights rally in the city. I really want to rock up to the rally as Dumbledore but I think I might trip on my sparkly robes. :awesome

I have a placard in my room that says "Equal rights for all wizards" that I'd let you borrow except, you know. You're thousands of miles away. D:

I actually like the flying smoke people effect. A lot more visually interesting than popping from one place to another.

Honestly, I'm going to watch the movie just so that I can rage at it.

    Rage is fun. :awesome
