I could see that maybe being a could idea in the beginning, trying to distance themselves considering the lackluster reputation the franchise has had in the video game world for the last few years, but ignoring a lot of great IPs forever sounds like a bad idea. Besides, people really want to see some sequels to certain Star Wars games and you know EA will make them if they see money there.

On the one hand, yes, it does sound like a bad idea.

On the other hand, I'd honestly prefer to leave X-Wing and Knights of the Old Republic as they are than have them be resurrected by EA and 'reinvisioned' into steaming piles of shit.

If they're going to fail spectacularly, and you know they will, search your feelings, you know it to be true, then I would prefer them to fail spectacularly at some new Star Wars thing, so I can comfortably stamp the entire sub-franchise with the Shit and Noncanon stamps and not think twice about it.

It's easier to hate what they do if you can compartmentalize it all under one massive heading. Then we can just be all "no, everything in [that specific series of Star Wars things] is shit and non-canon. We won't even talk about it except as an example of what to not-do."

In a happy world, that would be how it works, yes. The problem is "where the publishing companies see the money" and "where the money actually is" don't always line up. EA would rather play with what they know works than experiment. They'd never make something like Dishonored. It just wouldn't happen. They want big-budget big-turnout blockbusters that they can hype up.

We won't ever see a sequel to Republic Commando, because even though I'm sure a lot of people would be sold instantly just because it's Republic Commando 2, publishers don't see it the same way.

There will be no Republic Commando 2. There will never be a Bulletstorm 2. There will be no sequel to Vanquish. We will never see anything else come out of Brutal Legend. Knights of the Old Republic III will never exist in any satisfactory capacity beyond the tattered scraps of the initial proposition that were recycled into TOR (most of the playable classes were in fact supposed to be your squadmates, just to give you an idea of where that was going). Knights of the Old Republic II will never be re-released with updated graphics, bugfixes, and all of the content that was cut out of it at the last minute because they ran out of time to finish it. Mass Effect is dead and will never have any measure of justice done to it beyond you replaying the first game and thinking about What Could Have Been. Dragon Age 3 will fail to live up to the standards that the series set for itself, and DA2 will forever have some of the best characters ever written for an RPG standing around with their thumbs up their asses because there was no story or plot progression whatsoever, and there won't ever be one because the group disbanded at the 'end' of the 'story.'

X-Wing will never have justice done with another sequel. If they ever make a new Star Wars Battlefield, it will be shit. If it ever stops being vaporware, Half-Life 3 will never in a million years live up to the expectations people have of it; it can only be a disappointment.

Because if I'm going to gaze into the cold waters of Could Have and Should Have and wish for a sip of What Might Have Been, then goddamnit I'm not going to do it alone.

Fans did actually restore some of KoToR 2's lost content. Generally, I don't want to agree with what you're saying. But I do.

Just in case people haven't played it yet, the TSLRCM is 100%, absolutely worth your time. As is their restoration of M4-78, the droid planet.

Yep that mod is really worth the effort of getting it and the game running.

To the whole EA-Star Wars issue. Like others I have no real hope that anything worthwhile will come out of it... the best we can hope for is a mildly entertaining Battlefront 3 because it can´t be to difficult to develop something like that after Battlefield.

Still I also have a slight hope that EA is willing to try something different from their usual modus operanti to save/restore some of their reputation. Their shareholders can´t be too happy about failures like SimCity or DA 2 (pretty sure the cartel Market idea saved SWTOR on the money side). And developers like Bioware need something more than substandard games to stay interesting to the fan community.

Agreed. If you can't be bothered to play through it yourself, this LP offers the full experience along with hilarious and in depth commentary.

That LP doesn't cover the restoration mod but it is a funny read. Actually, since that LP there have been two restoration mods, one by Gizka and one by splinter group of Gizka. I forget which one is better.

Kreia's worth playing the game for.

    My favorite scenes:

    Also, I think I've identified Kreia's philosophy as a presocratic's.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heraclitus

-"Strife is justice" , war is necessary to build character
-Monoism for change (Kreia talks about flux quite a bit, though maybe it's extreme to call her a monoist)

As long as we're panning EA, don't forget what they did to the Command and Conquer series.

Yeah, I'd play the shit out'a that. I have good memories of the Star Wars pod racing game on the dreamcast. Fucking Zebulba and his firelance.

I still break out the N64 once a year for a little pod-racing/zelda/smash-bros/golden-eye marathon.

Give me a new pod racer and I'll continue to tolerate your evil shenanigans, EA.

My favourite arcade game was always the Star Wars pod racer one. I sunk so much cash into that.

For anyone who hasn't already seen, Battlefront 3 by DICE is confirmed.

I'd say the post-Lucas Arts generation of Star Wars games is off to a decent start.

Saw this yesterday. Haven't stopped sobbing uncontrollably since then. It's made work somewhat difficult.
