I'd argue for the inclusion of the Jbern fics as well. Turn Me Loose and Bungle are sitting at 4.25 and 4.45 respectively, and I reckon that they are perfectly reasonable for inclusion. They are exactly the sort of fic that should be advertised by DLP, well written but also with popular appeal.

Bluminous8 is a DLP author - he's aaltwal - so, you know, there's that. As for Jbern... Your call, but Taure and Mordecai have both made good points.

It's worth noting I left his 5-Starred fics in there. My personal opinion on the topic of Jbern is that he (like all other DLP authors) was asked to help promote the C2 and was one of the few who didn't. That along with the fact that he's no longer active on the forum is (in my eyes at least) enough to warrant his not being included as a 'DLP Author'.

It's also worth noting that there's no fics in the C2 any more that aren't 5-Starred, unless they're written by a DLP Author, so the discussion is whether he's admissible on that ground.

    Eh.

Wasn't aware of that. Will rectify.

As I recall Ceebee Bio used to write some quite good stuff, though I've not seen anything by him in quite a while.

His HP/Star Wars crossover is widely considered the best HP/Star Wars cross around.

Of course, there's not a massive amount of competition, but still. Makes it noteworthy.

I don't think my opinion is going to count much, but for me, he certainly is a DLP Author, simply for the fact that he (along with Sesc) a) brought me into the HP fandom and more importantly b) brought me to DLP. It's true that he didn't (and doesn't) actively promote the C2, or DLP, but he made enough mentions in the Author Notes of his stories that it intrigued me.

Also, I'm a little confused at your use of the phrase "active on the forum". As far as I'm concerned, he still is 'active', in that he is online from time to time, posts in the forums (sporadically, but he does) and that he replies when you contact him trough DLP. Or are you referring to something different?

Then don't let his future works in the C2; Bungle in the Jungle however is a classic of the fandom, and was born in these boards. His other work, the one with the seer, is up for debate (I would let it in) -- but Bungle should definitely be in.

I know I'm being an ass but "The Last time Vash (any other inactive (in writing) DLPer from your list) posted anything in WbA?"

The difference being that the inactive authors included as part of the C2 no longer write, where as Jbern continues to write but no longer uses WbA.

I added Bungle and TML back to the C2, but for the record I don't think they ought to be there.

The label of being a DLP author is confusing... wasn't the established DLP author section removed to encourage others to put to words their own ideas, instead of being intimidated?

What's the problem if an author doesn't put his work on WBA? It's his or her choice and has reasons for not putting it up in the wba. Perhaps he has judged himself competent enough that he doesn't need the input of his peers in writing a fic?

Jbern is the primary reason why I found this place, and I think it's unfair for his works not be included in the DLP c2, along with questioning his being still a DLP author just because he didn't post a work in the wba.

Huh. I'm technically on the staff for the C2. In regards to the matter at hand, I think that, while people are understandably going to bat for JBern in terms of the C2, remember that what's happening here (or happened and now has been reversed) is NOT the removal of all of his fics from the C2. Simply the removal of the fics that are rated a little bit lower and who's inclusion hinges on the notion of JBern as a DLP author.

Honestly, I highly doubt that, currently, JBern would even consider himself as a DLP author. He's had books published and, while he may frequent these forums on occasion, hasn't posted new works in the WBA for quite a long time. The notion of someone being or not being a DLP author should certainly hinge on whether or not they post their new work on DLP. If they used to, but don't anymore (and Enembee's distinction regarding the difference between a JBern and Vash, for instance, is important here), well then they probably aren't a DLP author anymore. The point of the C2 is to show off what DLP has to offer and the works that are representative of us as a group. I feel it is currently doing a good job of that.

I won't be personally offended if all of JBern's work is included in the C2. At the same time, however, I have to agree with Enembee. Personally, I wouldn't include them (the one's rated below 4.5 stars, I mean).

I'm nominating VINCET to be voted in - I was surprised that it didn't have a 4.5/5 on DLP but firmly believe that it deserves to be in the C2.

So any writer who has ever posted on DLP qualifies to be included in the C2? I'll just start adding stuff from the likes of 4R4W and smarties2 then.

The point of the C2 was two-fold; promote the authors who are primarily well known on DLP but have yet to establish a fanbase on FFNet and to catalogue the crème de la crème of Harry Potter fanfiction.

The second option has obvious and stringent control, either they're 4.5 or over or they're not in the C2. But the first is far more difficult to quantify. The way I see it, there's a huge gulf of difference between the likes of Johnny Farrar, Silens and VotN who all engage with the tools DLP offers to writers and Jbern, who clearly does not.

It's not a slight against him in any way, he's off doing his own thing and good for him. I just don't understand how exactly he's a DLP author.

If people would prefer it or to create less ambiguity, I could simply axe that entire section of the C2 and only list 5-Starred fics.

Personally I think that unless you're posting your current work to DLP or at least engaging with the forum in a meaningful way, then getting a free ticket into the C2 is a little weak.

The voting thing is currently axed, as it just created a whole bunch of ambiguity. Either it's > 4.5 and in the C2 or it's not. According to Taure some (or all of) nos tres reges are DLP members, but if they're going to write anonymously, eh, what can I say to that?

If you've a huge desire to get fics included then find their relevant library thread and tout it. There's a list of every story in the C2 (bar the most recent additions/removals) linked in the 'Stickies and such' thread.

I disagree with this notion, especially because I feel like this:

is much more important to me than is strict and stringent quality control. Partly because there are fics that are widely praised on this site that, for one reason or another, do not receive 5 star ratings. At the moment, nothing in the C2 is below better than average quality. So honestly, I don't think that's an issue at the moment.

    I completely agree.

Agreed, that's why I'm requesting Thief to be removed from it. It's full of spelling errors, grammar mistakes, lack of proper formatting, plot, etc. I don't think it rightfully deserves to be in the C2 just because I regularly post at DLP.

I think Saving Ivy by Nuhuh should be removed from the list. It is awesome but it's only three chapters long and has not been updated in two and a half years. I don't care how awesome a fic is, if it's still in the beginning stages and look as if it's dead.

Fire and Emerald: A Love Story by q11 needs to be removed as well. 3 chapters, have yet to be updated in 3 years. I'm wondering how it even got into the list as 3 years ago DLP was avidly against Harry/Ginny.

Actually, there are quite a few fics that are just a few chapters in and look to be completely dead.

If she was apart of DLP I would throw out Prince of a Dark Kingdom... But she is not.

    I nominate:

Sitra Ahra by Voice of the Nephilim 4.23 rating
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4894268/1/Sitra_Ahra

Harry Potter and the Assassin's Creed by Grinning Lizard - 4.33
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6486247/1/

Wow, we have fewer 5 star fics than I thought.

    Fewer.

Also, GL's fic should probably be in there. I'd agree with that much, for sure.
