I've missed this thread at it's conception, but there's still more than a month until September. I just might dust of my cobwebs and try to write something for this one.

I've been drafting a SciFi adjacent setting recently, and while it doesn't fit the bill (too much magic) I think I can figure out something else that would. Hopefully with enough time for proper editing.

    Contract question @Joe :
    How does this interact with
I assume that since there's no "proprietary right to the work" by the forum itself, that's fair game.
What about after the stories get denied/accepted, would they be removed from the forum or could stay?

They could stay - it's more about ensuring no other publishing company has proprietary rights to the work. As an aside, that's why a lot of publishing houses still accept or make offers on decent self-published works, as the author has retained the full rights.

    @Nauro

In my experience posting something on a password-protected forum does not count as having 'published' it online.

If I was to write a story and post it on OWbA, it doesn't count as published. Even if I submitted it to Writers of the Future or some other major international competition. If I put it up on Wordpress and make it accessible to the public, however, it does count as having been published online.

Disclaimer: These are my impressions, do not assume I actually know what I'm talking about.

I might be bowing out I think. Going in for surgery week from monday i found out and its been a total distraction. Unless i just start typing a ton while recovering I may be bowing out of this one.

Same for the regular competition as an fyi ched.

    Wish me luck guys

There's an extremely low chance of finishing in time, even as I have a promising rough outline, there's only a handful of scenes done, and a heavy editing work would be required to present anything of quality. I'm still planning to finish the story, just not for the anthology. Will try to post on WbA when I do have a readable draft.

    Have a good one, guys.

There is a very small chance I will finish it within a week or even a month, but like Nauro I plan to post it in WbA when it's somehow done.

My biggest problem is before there can be a humour, there is a necessity of first explaining the TV Show setting which is not humours and intentionally needs to be a little generic s-f, but not to the point of being boring. When you write a fic with the same premise, it's much easier because you don't need to do that and it allows you to start with the jokes.

It's a fun challenge, which is why I didn't start something different instead, but I'm disappointed I'm unable to finish it for the anthology.

I really wanted to pull this together. But I just don't have it in me any more. I haven't written in four months and that decay coupled with the constant mental fog just impedes me every time I try to do this over right. The only alternative I have is resubmitting the previous 2015 draft and that is such a frustration.

Is there going to be enough authors who finished to make the anthology or is it going to be @LittleChicago book? Three books in a year is quite impressive though.

We'll review that on September 1st - if we don't have a sufficient count of stories, we will of course have to look at extending the submission timeline.

I don't want anyone to feel left out or disheartened by this process, so we can be flexible up to a point here.

@Joe I did submit something, but I didn't get a confirmation - can you verify that you got it?

    Hey, folks.

So just for transparency, we've had only a few entries - not enough to compose an entire anthology. To that end, if we extended the submission who would consider writing and submitting?

I'm not asking for a commitment to submit, but an intention to submit. Let me know.

I intend to submit. Uni being busy and who I am as a person has made me miss the deadline though.

I also intend to submit, if all I end up doing is going back to my 2015 draft and following up on what Mordecai gave me from 2016, revising the protagonist, expanding on the world, completing the original ending for it.

But what I've been trying to do is rewrite from the ground up with the most up to date plotting and characterization. Got a lot of work to make up for on that end.

I entirely missed this thread up until literally five minutes ago - and I'm down for writing something Sci-Fi, definitely. I'm not sure how on Earth this even passed me by? I don't visit the forums enough...

That would take us to 5 possible stories.

Anyone else keen on submitting? I'll write one to take it to 6.

Noting we have to judge on quality and not quantity, I'd like to see a few more before we determine a new submission date.

I appreciate the entries that have been submitted.
