Does anyone know if there are links to most of these stories? I would like to at least check out the fail if it's there. 90% of the nominees I haven't even heard of. Obviously I know that I could probably search FFN but it would make sense if they had links to the stories so those of us that haven't heard of a story can check it out and decide for ourselves rather than have a null vote because we haven't heard of any of the stories in the category.

That being said I think Bungle has had it's fair time of worshiping. I would rather see TML or any of the other stories that have come out take it's place. It's an awesome story but when it wins awards LAST year it's time to move on. You don't see Oscars given to movies that are two years old even if they were better than the current nominees do you?

It was less than a year ago that Celebony's Recnac Transfaerso was posted in the awesomely bad thread where you can find my thoughts on the subject. But I'll summarize it with my conclusion:

If menstrual cramps could be harnessed into fic form, they would be Celebony.

And yeah, the HP fandom is almost too big and too varied for there to be a centralized awards setup. I just got a review saying my fic ABC had been nominated for comedy and asking permission to be up for the award. I msged them back a yes. Considering the volume of HP fics out there I have zero interest in reading, there weren't a whole lot of nominated fics I'd never heard of I felt like tracking down.

Crossover category looked neglected and I've no idea what Best Canon and Best Fanon are awarding exactly. Meh. Maybe the attention they get for their first attempt at awards will help them do it a lot better next time.

    EDIT:

The list of nominees, all the fic titles are links to them.

I cannot find any correlation between quality and things decided by large masses of people. Especially not if those people are fangirls.

This extends to elections as well.

The only fic I've looked at in the Quibbler Awards voting area*, and actually found interesting was Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness--and that motherfucker isn't even Harry-centric. So yeah. Hard to say who's actually nominating these stories.

*--not including the stories I'd already found here and read before. read: DLP authors.

This isn't a Quibbler Award thing, but yesterday I ran across another site, The Best Of, with the lofty goal of linking the "best" stories in various genres in HP fanfiction. Their rules amount to, basically, "no self-nominations", "no NC-17", and "all fics must be readable without needing to make an account." It looks like a story just needs nomination and two additional votes to be listed.

For the entertaining part: The affiliate site is one with extremely limiting rules on what they accept. (More strict even than nanny-sites like SIYE). It appears that with a bit of work on the part of a few members, a slate of community favorites could end up dominating what is listed among the "Best Of." If done with apparent honesty, this could well be a more insidious troll than, say, the GinnyPotter fiasco. (And Vash could finally win a coveted "Best Fluff" distinction with OF).

Hehe. I just noticed that apparently winners were announced a couple weeks ago. You'd think they would have mentioned that to someone.

But congratulations to Shezza, winning both Crossover and Action/Adventure.

And congratulations to me, for winning Comedy. I know, I rule.

And a 'nice try' for Joe, runner-up for Best Characterization, and jbern, runner-up for Best Original Character and Best Alternate Universe.

DobbyElfLord got a runner-up for one-shot, general fic, best author, and won for Most Original. But I think we may have scared him away.

    The awards were obviously rigged.

How could Shezza have won two otherwise?

    Congratulations guys.

Hey, congratulations! Too bad you don't get a free coffee or something...

[Edit: Interesting. Seems like almost all the DLP authors who were nominated at least got a runner-up.]

That's because we're the only ones in the fandom that actually think before writing... And we can spell. That helps.

Also, congratulations Shezza and nonjon :D.

I'm not surprised Shezza won two awards.

And if nonjon didn't win a comedy award, then we would know the awards were rigged.
