Depends on what life is like for you in reality. Life on Mars has a similar schtick, as did that show with Jason Isaacs. If a person's life is pretty shit I could see them just accepting the new reality despite the chance of it being a delusion.

I mean seriously, how many people would give up having phenomenal cosmic powers if they had them? I'd be half way tempted to give up on reality myself, and I have a pretty good life. Though that may be the megalomania talking.

To be fair, if I found myself immersed in what appeared to be a hyper-realistic, detailed and vivid Harry Potter dream/delusion... I would totally just go with the flow. Though one of my primary worries would be that I'd forget it all when I woke up.

Am I the only one who'd Rather wake up in one of their favorite FanFictions than in the canon story.

I would rather wake up in the universe of shopaholic1369's The Son of Lord Voldemort than in the regular canon.

Lol, no. Fanfiction is entertaining, but I can't really think of a single one that I'd say is better than canon.

Doing a SI well implies you can write yourself in an interesting manner. Pretty tough. If you can do that, then you can probably write anything.

A good SI is probably one which isn't too emo or edgy, but also isn't too fake. You've got to sell your persona, not the real you, I think, or it maybe gets a little too personal and creepy. At the same time, if the you you're trying to sell is too fake, it'll show and the audience will enjoy your story less.

The best SI maybe one which doesn't label itself as such -- and the readers can't tell that it is.

Personally, I think a fate worse than death is being sent to "The Methods of Rationality" Universe.

The only good thing about that place is odds are Harry can just whip up an inter-dimensional portal that can send me home while engaging me in huge political and philosophical debates that would impress Socrates.

I dunno, it might be worth going there just so you can kill Harry while he's still a kid and save the world.

Harry is only a part of the problem. Everyone in that Universe is essentially a Mary Sue. None of the eleven year olds actually act, think, or behave like eleven year olds. Everyone thinks it's fun to constantly have serious discussions on numerous topics, from how Power should be used to if an Afterlife exists. And don't even get me started on that War Game they all played.

Short of killing everyone in that Universe, you aren't going to save it. It's already doomed.

The only one that I find comparable in terms of style and content is the Alexandra Quick series. Of all of them, I think that'd be my favorite to slip in to.

I'd think my favorite story to slip into would be one without an evil bad guy bent on world domination. Calvin and Hobbes or something.

A few years ago I heard a not unintelligent girl say she'd like to live in Twilight. Why? The main character is depressed all the time, suicidal and op vampires want to kill her more often then not. When I asked further, the answer I got was that it was more colorful then real lives grey in grey (we were still in school at the time).

Well, that is because all the boring, grey stuff got cut out for our reading pleasure. I don't think a fun story would make a fun life, simply because danger is fun to read about, not fun to be in and all the repetetive normal stuff got overlooked. Like the difference between pressing the train button in an rpg, writing "he trained really hard"
    and actually training.

Most SIs I've read start out with the SI wanting to stay out of superpowered fights and lethality (none of them actually do so); I find the reluctant hero a bit overdone.
So I at least want to read about a character very different from myself.

You could make your SI the reluctant villain instead. Although it would be a nice change of pace, I suspect it wouldn't really be a SI anymore for most of us.
