    Me too, swim.
I have to agree with this. I've been recommending stuff off of Naruto, Marvel and X-man that's in the very good to excellent range but few people say anything and they consquently stay in the review section. So I don't know whether to keep recommending or to stop because no one seems to want to read it.

If we could incorporate Castiel into a new banner it would be awesome

I have another addition that I believe is warranted -

A Games Discussion section that covers everything we play as a collective group. Whether that is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Online Checkers and Poker, we should place a greater emphasis in attracting information regarding the games - using Poker as an example, is Poker Stars a better website than Full Tilt, and why?

Also, a Sports Discussion section that goes in depth into world leagues (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, EPL, etc). I have always enjoyed talking about sports, yet it's something that very rarely gets addressed on DLP. I suspect that a majority of members have an invested interest in Sports and participate in discussion on other forums.

These are the types of things I wish this forum talked about more often, and at length.

    Multimedia
    Gaming and PC Discussion

I made these years ago. Gaming get some good discussion when there's a good game out. All these suggestion for a forum to talk about games, or movies, or books, or tv shows... guy's they're already there. o_O

To be fair, since Gaming is never where the newest thread in Multimedia is and you can't see it from the front page of the board, no one pays attention to it.

EDIT: Perhaps an "Other Crap" section containing the current sections of Multimedia, as well as any other crap we might tack in? Or Multimedia being brought to the front instead of having its subforums hidden?

I am all for adding a Supernatural section to the site and would be very happy to help out with that.

Me too. I've been looking for some good Supernatural fics for almost a week.

I totally support a supernatural section. This fandom has a lot of unused potential.

No need for anything fancy for a Supernatural section of course, just the same treatment The Dresden Files and Codex Alera section have would be fine. :)

1.) Keep the DLP acronym and theme. If you change the forum theme I'm packing.

2.) darklordpotter.com, which currently points to that stupid Enter Page, should be turned into a blog-news format, sort of like engadget or lifehacker. We'd have articles on fanfics, canon (books, movies - other possible fandoms), reviews, highlight particular threads, etc.

The forum would become a subdomain of this. forums.darklordpotter.net points to this existing site. Link-ins from the rebranded Enter Site would link to a rebranded version of this forum. Members can opt-in to the 'old-style' (how it is now).

3.) The forum should be simplified as the following:

One (1) For Review -> For Review Subforum that includes specific For Reviews for each Fandom, as well as original.

Library -> Library Subforum that includes specific libraries for each fandom, as well as original.

4.) Stronger focus on original. We need to archive good stuff from fictionpress, which has some standout material.

5.) Generate more fandoms actively - we need people who are willing to write fanfics on unknown fandoms. This generates readership that will hopefully boost authors in the fandom. Ex: Felix Castor is prime and ready for a fandom.

6.) I hate to say this, but we need to become more friendly to other HP users. Extending whatever life we can out of the HP fandom is critical to DLP's long term success. If that means embracing and taking over Portkey and SIYE's users as their sites collapse so be it.

We'll eventually become the #1 go to destination for HP. Integrating these people may or may not be possible while keeping DLP's culture. We need to provide them an incentive to join and come into the fold without changing us - this entails our dedication to the fandom, other fandoms, and original works.

7.) PC should stop trying to be an alternative to Fanfiction.net and act more as an archive where people can be sure it'll be safe no matter what happens on FFnet.

8.) I'd like a sports section, but I'm going to straight out admit I'm going to troll 24/7 a la /sp/ with u mad, etc.

I wouldn't mind the option of 2-3 different themes. I don't know if that would be a problem or cost too much, but the option would be nice if it's not too much trouble

This. There's enough people that like a sport of some kind that this needs to happen sometime soon.

    There's always this.

Amer: Seems to me that trying to assimilate the rest of the fandom won't do anything to keep current DLPers interested in HP, and will probably just water down the awesomeness we already have.

Just the fact that you think we should be nicer to other HP users shows that we can't integrate them while keeping DLP's culture. I'm not adverse to avoiding gratuitous haet, but trying to become the No.1 go to destination for HP doesn't seem like a good idea, generally.

I"m rereading a lot of the ideas here and I think what I'm coming away with is simple. Xipho and Antivash* made it very apparent. They stay because the focus is on HP.

Many have said this site has become something more than that, but I don't think so.

So, if HP goes the way of the dodo, bye-bye, so will the current members of the site. Yet, I can't help but feel that it will be years before that actually happens(decades in my honest opinion HP has a strong following.) I think a lot of people are thinking it'll be gone in just a few short years and DLP with it.

People cite Ranma as an example. Allow me to cite Evangelion. It is still going strong, eight years after the release of the VHS tapes in the US, even before the Rebuild series came out. They have a forum, evageeks, that has been updated and flourishing for longer than DLP.

As to bringing in fresh blood. Scratch that. If the culture changes DLP will sink I think. (Warning, obvious statement is obvious.) I think what Lord Ravenclaw is asking is what will keep people here if(big one) HP dies. Not new people, but people who are already posting here. Something everyone is already doing. (Told you the last statement was obvious.)

Some people have mentioned that Games are lost in the Multimedia and so are Book threads. Moving them to For Review would bring people to focus on them, though if For Review was expanded, then I think other ones would be lost as well. So maybe not a review, the admins seemed not to like the idea, then how about a layout change to where some thread like those aren't lost? Not sure how, but just putting it out there.

*If Antivash and Vash collide what would happen? Would they cancel each out? Or explode?(I know they are the same person.)

This will become a chore for them very soon.

That's the worst idea I read in this entire topic. If DLP is going to die, I'd rather remember it fondly and not as the site that sold out its identity for few months of borrowed time. You might invite slash fangirls too, btw.

I'm all for doing what is neceserry to survive as a site but this is ridiculous. The site should not pander to an influx of idiots just for the sake of expanding membership.

No U. Why should we bring in fresh blood that is going to change DLP. While we all goof around on April Fools, that doesn't mean we want this place flooded by a bunch of retards who are more likely to act like Ginny Potter fans than what DLP looks for.

For it being a hidden section, the traffic in there is greater then a majority of the other parts of the site despite it being a subforum when there's something to talk about. I put it as a subforum rather then leaving it on the front, because we were getting a giant clusterfuck of disoganization with so many forums out front. It's easy to find, it's organized, it gets used heavily, but only when something new is out, so if it's going to sit lightly trafficked until the hot new games are out, it's pointless to move it front and center again.

I've never linked, ever, to the front page, I always go to the forums.

I've never been for more friendly, but more tolerant for the first month or so maybe. But then, most of our users lurked for awhile, and usually know how to act. Sometimes the troll wagon does indeed jump on newbies too soon though. However, if we ever get so kiddy as to be uber friendly to some of the other sites.... ew. nothx

Style changes are blasphemy, but filling out the web browser page is much, much needed. At most widescreen resolutions on bigger monitors the forum page only uses like 55% of the screen real estate.

I dunno, I know quite a few folks here stay because of the people and the "relationships" they've made. I lost interest in HP after HBP was so bad, but stayed and amused myself. Real Life, Multimedia, we started gaming together with TF2, things like that keep folks, in addition to them wanting to read a random decent fic.

That's true... yet I'm not sure you (and others) realise just how much of the membership come for the HP fanfictions and don't give a shit about IRC, Gaming or Real Life discussion. Even now. They're the quietest, they stay in the Library and in WbA -- if they post at all -- but they probably make up the majority of DLP's member list.

Some kind of DLP census needs to be undertaken.
