OK. The thread has gotten a bit long and I haven't read the entire thing, but... I'll throw in a few comments:

Why don't we make the name just DLP? No acronym. That way we don't loose our reputation but do get rid of the HP connotations?

I like the idea of an academic group, but, frankly, I don't want DLP associated with my name and I do want my RL essays to be associated with it. If some of us want to form a group though and keep names off DLP... (I've also got some ideas for some essays that are too daring to associate with my name in RL, so it would be neat to have people I could show them to.)

I think there is an interesting combination of anonymity (or at least quasi-anonymity) and intelligence that isn't focussed on a particular field. I'm curious as to where it will develop.

The biggest thing about alternate fandom's, is that when there is actually enough material, we create a sub forum for them. Having the forum for them isn't as much the issue, as having content for them is.

In regard to games? As soon as steam for mac comes out, I gotta say i'll be pretty keen to have some games.

Personally, I like the awards idea. But why limit it to the top ten stories of the year? If it's feasible, we could have award sections like 'best new author' which would stop the popular writer takes all deal.

I know I haven't been here very long as a member, but I've lurked for quite some time. In truth, I'd love to see the fanfiction section be expanded to accommodate more fandoms.

A lot of people have said something like this. Here's a scenario: Someone looks over your shoulder while you're on DLP.

    Them: What site's that?
    You: DLP.
    Them: What's it stand for?
    You: Nothing.
Them (Mentally): THE P STANDS FOR PORNOGRAPHY!
    Them: Uh, that's... great...

    Them: What site's that?
    You: DLP.
    Them: What's it stand for?
You: DLP Literature Project (or whatever).
Them: Oh, some sort of writing forum?
    You: Yeah.
    Them: Cool.

Uh, I really don't think most people would instantly jump to P standing for Pornography.

Either way, why can't people just make an acronym up if it bothers them so much? No need for an official one.

    They would, with Tehan.

Agreed on the real life stuff, both multimedia and workrelated.

As far as blogs go, I'd go with the "featured articles" that have been proposed, articles written by anyone and checked by the community. Something to put on the main page. (I don't even see it anymore since my bookmarks point to forums.dlp)

There's an acronym. It obviously stands for something. They won't tell me what it stands for. Therefore, it must stand for something shameful.

Pornography would jump to people's minds faster than Potter, though I'd say the latter is more shameful to guys in their late teens/early twenties. Better to just have the DLP Literature Project the official story and be done with it, even though damn near all of us will still be thinking DLP instead of a full name.

Generally we just make something up on the spot, and tell them to find out.

    "What's DLP stand for?"

    "Dicks Love Pussies."

"Oh, lol cool, can I join?"

    ------------

    "What's DLP stand for?"

    "Dead Leopards in Paris"

"Weird, can I get a link?"

Pornography is fine, as long it's not fanfiction :p

E: And while I'm here: how about changing For Review forum names to show what fandoms are they for?

I like the name/banner change idea. I like the top ten/awards idea and I like the expansion from just HP. The journal/peer review type thing I wouldn't use personally but I can't see the harm in.

As long as DLP stays DLP then I'm all for expansion and trying new things.

I don't see a reason to change the name from Dark Lord Potter; keep the acronym and the name it stands for. Yes it has Harry Potter connotations; that's the point, we are and always will be a primarily Harry Potter forum, even if we expand into other fandoms more.

I'm all for the site evolving.

    Suggested paths..

Dedicated game servers for members to play
    literary review blog

Gizmodo style article site would be an okay path. Just random shit.
Like a user generated news site where we report on random shit we find. Kind of like what we already do here in the forums.

I think I caught, as I was skimming this thread, something along the lines of making this site more friendly.

    I vote against that.
