Probably better than his real life, if he's treated anything like he is here. At least over the internet we can't actually hit him (yet!).

At least here we acknowledge his presence, even if it is with mirth and mockery.

Edit: He's like a digital Whack-a-Mole. I'd feel bad for him if it weren't so funny.

I agrree that this site needs to expand into more fandoms. Harry Potter, unless brought back by JK, is, inevitably dying. How many fics are being increasingly abandoned and forgotten?

I honestly believe that one day JK Rowling will troll this site. Then, angry at being ridiculed so strongly by her peers, the same motherfuckers who read her books, she will fly into rage and sabotage her own series so horribly she puts it to death. Like George Lucas did with Star Wars. Then there will be so many haters, cynics and genuinely pissed off authors that will join our community, and DLP will swell like never before.

So, I plead to you now; don't change the name - bitches! It will come back to bite you in the ass when Rowling falls.

I've read most of the ideas and see where the tides seem to be going. Yet, I can't help but think that the library is why the lurkers come and is what draws new members, thus giving life blood to the stuff none-library related.

I think that one of the main reasons people come here is for the For Review section and Library. Why not expand on that. Yet, not just in other fandoms, though that would be cool. Maybe Naruto, since many on here write in it and it's still going strong.

But, I digress. Why not expand the For Review to encompass other media. Averis' music idea. Use the same format, save give links to youtube or some such. Have local artists host their pictures here, or photographs, and put them up For Review? Give a little behind it. Many won't know how they were made or what programs of filters were behind them, but we will say if it's pretty or not.

Expand this to novels people have read. The latest WoT? His Dark Materials? Give a lengthy review, summing up with a whatever/5. Of course, this will have to be a little more thought out than the bandwagon stuff some posters put up in the For Review section.(Awesome story. 5/5).

Maybe set up a minimum word count per post to encourage actually reviews on it. Make the original poster have their review be something like 300-500 words. And additional reviews at least a hundred?

In essence, make a large For Review section with subforums for everything. Averis can post his music for review, get some feedback besides a thread that disappears. Have a section for original fiction to be posted. Not WBA for help. But a place where it can be reviewed. Where the gloves are off and the author is ready for the good and the bad.

Movies, books, poems, original fiction, movies, art, actors? I'm not sure if anything like it has popped up elsewhere on the web or not, but people here are already familiar with critiquing as they read or watch, just expand those honed skills beyond fanfiction. I know there are already threads dedicated to discussing those subjects, but I'm talking having the focus been on well-thoughtout reviews, not just "I liked it, but the end sucked."

And, if the community likes the subject as a whole we can give it the DLP Stamp of Approval(it goes into the library, which would be redone to accommodate the broadened material). Of course, people could get creative and actually make a stamp that gets placed by the thread name? (Would be funny/cool no?) Okay, it'd be stupid, but it was just a thought.

    Well, there's my change.

Love this idea. I know we already have a place where people can recommend books, but having a library of DLP approved books would be great.

I really liked Taure's Peer Review idea early on. It would be interesting to use everyone's combined knowledge on a paper or work. It's a good idea and a practical use of the board, similar to what this thread is trying to accomplish.

I'm not against a name change, but I'm not really in favor of it either. Perhaps a compromise would be to keep the DLP moniker but change what it stands for.

The Library idea sounds great, I would like it not just for books but for movies. My netflix queue is running dry and I would love to log on and see a movie rec with a review on it.

I could see DLP becoming a large recommendation site for all things really. People recommending places to go out to eat in their area. Books they read and think are worth something, Television shows, movies, music , books, and fanfiction. I know it's already something like this, but perhaps to a broader extent.

Reviewing books as such is a good idea, but I am going to speak out against the idea of a work limit right now. No way. If people wanna leave a small comment, + their rating, that should be just fine.

We've got enough posters that are gonna give us pages of shit no one wants read as it is.

I like the DLP Awards idea, but I was thinking of something a little more different. What if DLP hosted more of a writing competition? Instead of recommending fics from ffnet the awards would be for people who've written their own fiction (original and fan) and submitted their work to the DLP Literary Project Writing Awards(DLPLPWA??)

The stories would be voted on by the forum members and the 1st through 3rd place winners could receive some prizes (money is always a great incentive). Thinking optimistically, if someone submits a short story and wins they may possibly think about publishing and that would be good for our cred. If the awards get popular enough the forum may see an influx of members looking to submit their own work to the awards. Just an idea :3

Ellisande, you just typed around forty words. How much harder would it have been to write, say five more sentences? Writing a hundred words does not take as long as you think. Is it so much to ask to put more effort into leaving a review? Saying why something was good or why it was bad?

instead of having a thread like this.

    http://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=16088

And, here I thought DLP prided itself on intelligent posts.

The average lurker may not go to WBA and see what people thought of the story. And, I'm not going to read a story where people post like middle schoolers(I know those were posted all in fun.) If I'm going to read a fanfic from an author I don't know, I skim through the trash and look for a post that actually reviews the piece in question.

Memebers shouldn't be obligated to post a minimun amount of words. If I was reviewing Twilight I'd porbably just put "Poorly wirtten teen angst sparkly vampire bullshit". That is all it needs.

The reason for the short one liners there is down to that fics sucess in the WbA section, http://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=13703&highlight=divining+light, where you will find plenty of reviews and intelligent comments

You realize that post length doesn't mean intelligence right? Those 40 words did the job I wanted it too, anything more would of just been writing shit for the sake of it, without point. I'm not gonna do that.

The thread you linked is perfectly fine as it is, all the shit that needs to be said has been said. You don't need a long post to mention that you like something, and through your support behind it. Perhaps having a link to the WBA version of the thread could be a good idea, but there is no reason to force people to write a minimum post length. I can tell you right now, that would be me off posting anything in for review completely.

We rid ourselves of the retarded posters before they get settled, so getting stupid one line responses isn't really ever an issue for us, like it is on other forums. Not to mention, how hard is it to scroll past one line reviews?

The book review idea is good, yes, but what does it do that the book recommendation threads don't already?

It allows them to not get lost, if they have a forum of their own. Also, using the 1-5 rating system it can also let people quickly glance for what is thought the best.

I think there's potential in having DLP vote on wider media, and possibly an official stap of approval. That would probably work for books and movies, not sure about music (simply because personal preferences seem to cover a wider range) but that might work too. A lot depends on the way it's implemented.

I'm not in favour of a character or word limit, but I do agree that we should encourage detailed criticism over one-liners. People shouldn't be expected to synthesize their criticism when they've already posted their thoughts in the wba. DLP just isn't about forcing it's members to put in work they don't want to.
