    DLP January Awards Information

Okay. We'll be getting the first of several monthly contests off the ground shortly here. As mentioned before in the thread, they will be themed based on Library categories; January will be General. I realize we're starting this one a bit late, but we'll adapt. It's a test run anyway for next time.

Stories will be submitted anonymously; you will post your story in a forum, in a thread that only you and the staff/judges can see. All who submit stories will then have this viewing permission revoked while we judge the stories.

The stories will be judged by the staff in addition to five DLP regular members. Only new stories [not old ones] will be accepted, and judges/staff will be excluded from participation in the contest. This is to prevent some of the abuses we have seen in prior Awards.

If you would like to be considered for one of the five judges' spots, you may indicate as much in this thread. Please no debate as to the structure of the contest, keep on topic. We cannot satisfy everyone and we don't intend to try.

Is there a set order of categories? Will February be Independent, then will March be Romance?

So will we have to PM an admin to get permission to post in the Contest's forum or is it simply not up yet?

I'd actually like to judge for January, as I don't think I'll have time this month to write a complete story - but I definitely want to be involved.

Hm, I'd like to give being a judge a shot... Unless there's better reviewers than I who would like to. In that case, give it to them, I suppose.

Yeah, there's no way I can get a decent story ready for a January submission, but I'm definitely down to be a judge.

Put me down for judging - I think I'd have better luck with either Indy or AU than Dark Arts.

I'm definitely hoping for a part in the judging, seeing as I decided against adding my work into the writing pool. It will be plain awesome.

I'm glad that this is getting underway, and good work on starting the thread that led to all of this, Xiph.

I don't know if I can do justice to the role of a judge, especially given the bajillion qualified people who are/will be volunteering for one of the positions, but perhaps I can spice things up as a bailiff.

Is there any required limits to the story being submitted? Such as only completed stories would be considered and any requisite word limits.

I've a Dark Arts story half-way planned and have even begun work on it but there is no way I could get it done within January itself. I could submit a one-shot though if you guys accept that.

Whatever you submit we'll judge - we don't want to discourage you from entering a chap or two from a new WiP. Doesn't need to be completed or a one-shot.

Yes! Johnny Farrar, you asked the same question I was just about to ask.

After I finish a chapter I am working on for my WiP, I was going to start a new WiP that is definitely The Dark Arts. I just know I will not be able to finish this story this month, in fact... I know I won't because this fic could be anywhere from 50,000 words +

    Now I am excited.

I'd love to be a judge but I'm not really qualified, whilst I think its healthy to have at least one non-author as a judge, there are better people out there. If they are drawn at random, ill throw my name into the hat.

Is it possible, after all the judging is complete, that the stories become available for all members to read keeping them anonymous, so the rest of the forum can enjoy the process. Then the judges could post their results a week later or something?

SPO here is willing to judge! :)

Dark Arts fics are my favorite type of fanfiction. I look forward to reading the fics whether I am selected as a judge or not!

The real question most of us probably want to know is how long do we have to get something written? Is a date set yet or are the staff still discussing it?
