How comes it keeps telling me: "Error while connected to server -- Received error n°0: Connection refused"?

'Cause the server's down, and has been for the past two days or so. I'm sure it'll be fixed up soon.

Okay, Im real sorry about all the challenges Ive been unable to answer these past couple weeks (specifically DarthBill, Kang, and a couple others), but Ive been crazy busy with the last month of term, and with finals in the next few weeks, my workload isn:t getting much lighter.

Ill try to be online as much as I can though, so if you see me on IRC, Ill try my best to answer your challenges.

Also, school computers suck. Fucking JPN keyboards have no apostrophe key.

Server has been down for a while now. Should the tournament continue in the main server in the meantime?

Alright, like I said in the Gen5 Tourney thread, I'm mulling over the idea of a ladder system instead of the traditional E4+Gym Leaders format.

Here's what I have in mind:

What do you guys think? I personally really want to at least try it out to see if we can get a more active Pokemon community here.

Because our server shut down and when it was brought back up we weren't accepting battles until the gym tourney was done.

    :facepalm

^ Look, I can do facepalm too!

Regardless, ladder could be a decent idea. Point system needs to be changed though. What happens if you tie?

No change, no? Nobody won, so nobody lost, and so nobody gets anything.

So you get no reward for battling in the first place? Two points for a win and one point for a draw. Seems sensible, yes?

Seems reasonable. Maybe start at 100 for an initial value?

I'll miss my gym but I guess we could go with that.

The ladder system sounds rather too complicated from my point of view - all the updating business just fiddly and has the potential to get old fast. I'd write you a program to keep track of it if it really comes to it, but I personally don't want to change the system.

For one, it's not as gratifying as beating the gym leaders and then the Elite Four - and secondly, there's no goal in sight, no drive, since either the scores will level out, or the really good battlers reign at the top, and new battlers get discouraged because they never get any points.

I'm all for renewed interest in the tournament - but I wouldn't say that's the way to go.

And the badges are fucking awesome. I know so because I made them. Don't drop this before I even got the chance to show you, guys. D:

I definitely wouldn’t mind having a ladder system in place. For those who think it’d take too much time and effort to always calculate scores, PO already has a ladder system installed. If nothing else, we could always use that and it’d keep track for us. I especially like this weekly score calculation thing we might be doing as that would keep activity high instead of just letting the thread die out after a couple months.

Though, if people do want some gratification with winning these weekly tally ups, maybe we could give the winners Pokemon every week? Because I have a bunch of rare Pokemon that I don’t mind giving away as well as Pokerus. No shinies or anything, but they could still be worth something. To keep people from just taking first place every time, maybe a winner for one week can’t win for another couple weeks afterwards to give other people a chance.
