That was just awesome. I think a lot of the unanswered questions can probably be explained later as the mind-fuckery of the Silence, somehow. I'm sure we'll find out. I hope.

Man, I love that Moffat's probably set this whole thing up from the start perfectly. Think about it for a moment: River Song had to sacrifice herself when the Doctor first met her, saving his life in the process... So he could go on to get Amy and Rory into the TARDIS and eventually lead to her being conceived in the process. Yeesh.

Brilliant episode. My favourite Doctor moment was probably the speech about Colonel Runaway, of how one moment that he's setting up will lead to the destruction of one man's life, and all because that man tried to bait the Doctor. Just awesome.

Though, if I had one complaint, it's that I think the episode was cut down a bit. Like, the Judoon appeared in the battle briefly, but with no explanation - I remember the series six trailer had what I assume to be a Judoon peering through an eyehole. I thought it'd be used here, but I guess not. But hey, we got a Victorian London-era Silurian bounty hunter and her katana-wielding maid/possible lover. Worth it.

 

These two. Oh so much. These two made my morning.

There are no words to describe this level of terrible. At least we know that poor writing skills are a communicable disease.

I like what this says about the timelords as well. According to the Wiki, Galifreyans only became Time lords when they discovered Time travel. I always assumed that was just a title.

But this, It meant that their Regeneration was not a natural by product of their evolution prior to the Vortex and the untempered Schism. This implies that those abilities are garnered either through generations of exposure or being conceived in Time it self. For all we know they could have been just like humans. Not just in looks but biology. This could also imply there are non galifreyan Time Lords!!!!!

Fucking :awesome.

I love it when the writers take a chance and actually add something to the mythos of the series. Its so rare that when it does happen it blows my mind.

This series in itself has always been about discovering who the doctor was. There has never been a definitive answer, you get glimpses here and there but the mystery lingers. The moment we can say we know who he is, thats when the series ends.

Also Amy's got to stop trying to shoot her own daughter.

@Dark Ruku: Song River, makes as much sense as River song. If you don't get why I implied there should be a comma, then good luck in life.

I don't know if you can say that River is a calm healing one. She seems like the doctors mischievious side incarnate. They're as dark and violent as each other.

 

Rory just became my fifth favorite character of all time.

 

Well, I didn't like it. It was all far too annoying, in my opinion. Asides from River and Melody being one and the same, which I had really hoped they wouldn't be, are we going to have to double check that people who go off screen for a while don't come back as gangers?

Although, I now really want to know what regeneration number River was up to when she died. And we still don't know for sure who she killed/will kill...

 

Im hoping for a later regeneration, she has tones of potential. We do know at least that it's not her first, since we saw her regenerate in that ally.

Absolutely loved this episode. So many awesome Doctor Moments/ Quotes, and some well-managed twists despite how obvious the main one was. Great stuff.

I had a nerdgasm. Shivers ran through me that whole episode. Rory was a baws, The Doctor was a baws, Amy had some serious acting skills on screen, River Song came on like lulwut?

I've been trying to figure out why they made river a time lord. As far as I'm aware the big distinction between any other time traveler and a time lord is that time lords can regenerate. And Since kingston doesn't seem to be going anywhere, I figure her regernation will be a big plot device.

First Scenario:
This could make it harder for Amy, Rory, and the doctor to figure out who she is, as she could be anyone.

She has no reason to trust them, unless she knows who they are. Amy pretty much shot her, and we know that River can be effected by the silence so there is no guarantee she remembers anything about her childhood or the pictures depicting Amy and her. As well eye patch lady might raise her as her own. That would explain the similar hair styles they have. For all melody might know, Eye patch lady is her mother.

Second scenario:
She has used up all of her regenerations and 'River, Song' as we have known her is the last one.

Maybe even the doctor lets her steel one of his regeneration like the Valeyard was always trying to take from him. There's probably some timey wimey spacey wacey way the writers can think up to allow that to happen.

That could be why River kills him in the suit.

 

Didn't we see her regenerate in Episode 2? The Doctor knows she can regenerate and unless he bumps into someone who looks like River, knows very well that he will have trouble finding her.

 

Validating the logic of my first Scenario for me. Correct

 

We are dealing with that Scenario I think for the rest of the Series. It is also possible that River may be her last regneration, it is certainly somewhere down the line. At least I hope it is. I would be upset if she hadn't regernerated a few times. She needs photos of The Doctor in her diary. The Doctor, we know now, may need ones of her in his.

Unfortunately in the library, it explicitly said that someone couldn't regenerate from what she did. That makes me think this was all planned from the beginning.

I'm hoping we get another actor play River. If we continue seeing her meetings with the Doctor backwards, it would add another dimension to River - which regenreation she's in!

 

He doesn't know - he didn't see the girl regenerate, after all. He can probably make an educated guess though.

Are you talking about the david tenant meet up with River? The end of the Library episode?

I don't think anyone is saying that she will regenerate after Kingston, but in the timeline, to get to the River we know today, she probably has and will regenerate a butt load of times.

I would really be interested in seeing the personalities that will come out of her regenerations. As she is technically a human timelord she can break all the rules. For all we know she does become an absolutely different person.

The doctor has a new personality but his basic core ethics and attitudes are the same.

It would be awesome if Rivers regenerations were completely out there. She could becomes Evil, Good, sweet, deadly, psychotic,... all kinds of literal new people.

She could become a villain and a ally in one season. She could be a good replacement to the master.
