So... EG vs Secret Game 1. Best game of Dota since TI3 grand finals?

Seriously though, such perfect play from Envy.

Also, in B4 whatever team RTZ leaves winning major events. :p

I really, really hope OG wins this. If only so I don't have to listen to an EE circlejerk for the next 6 months.

And wtf is up with this Secret draft? Hatedrafting tiny then picking slardar seems super sketchy. Wtf is the tiny even supposed to be doing in this game?

Secret have been running radiant PLD tiny a lot this tournament. OG was prepared for it though, so it looked really bad.

Aui and Yawar must be feeling pretty smug now that DC beat EG.

They had just won the first game in the BO3 when he posted.

Have people been following the whole mess in shanghai? There really aren't words for just how large of a messup it was. The games were great though.

Yeah, the whole thing was a mess. As if it wasn't enough, a couple of players got robbed when the hotel went to clean the practice room without notice and discarded their personal items.

Honestly, if the Dota hadn't been as good as it was, I think this would end up being an even bigger deal than it currently is.

What did Envy say on reddit? His left eye is still bleeding from exposure to whatever the fuck it was in those booths.

Yeah, he had to pause multiple time during one of his game because his eyes would go dry as fuck in those booths.

What are your thoughts on G2D being fired from the event? Personally, I was kind of glad. His opening with a masturbation and pornography joke was just over the top for me. I really liked him at previous event, but this time I couldn't stand him.

However, I don't really like Sheever as a host, KotL Guy isn't too bad. I'm wondering what Manila will look like. I think they need new blood on the panels/cast, especially since TI and Manila are so close to each other.

I didn't watch the first day, but I did see a clip of what you are talking about.

Honestly, 2GD is 2GD. I've enjoyed watching him at previous events such as TIs, but you should expect what you get when you hire him. Also, the main problem with his jokes is that they were extremely culturally insensitive.

The problem I had was the way in which they went about doing it. It was completely unprofessional and (predictably) there was a huge backlash.

When it comes to hosting, I think 2GD was probably the best, but Sheever and Kotlguy aren't too bad. The best host of course is Redeye. That guy is fantastic, and I hope he will be hosting manilla.

Exactly my thoughts when he did that. Like come on, you're hosting a international event in China and you joke about pornography and masturbation, where such things are censored.

I agree that his hosting was good nonetheless; there were a couple of neat ideas like the white board with discussion on each teams strength and weaknesses.

It was disastrous, but the worst part is the genuine concern that this may spell the end of the Dota2 scene in China. Combine a truly pathetic performance by all Chinese teams on home-ground with the general clusterfuck of the actual event management and it's not looking good. Add in the complete lack of new blood in the Chinese scene and I'm not sure how long China will stay interested in Dota at all.

It would hold a little more weight if the Chinese casters didn't start talking about what a MILF is or try to get couples in the stands to kiss on camera (Along with same sex couples in a country against gay rights) or showing the sign on camera that said 'I wanna fuck PC cold.' I'm pretty sure 2GD got fired more for politics than his jokes but his jokes I'm sure gave a reason to get rid of him. If you haven't read 2GD's statement about it, it just sounds like everybody fucked up and Valve need to lay out in extreme detail what they expect because it sounds like there is nothing even remotely close to that.

No longer talking about 2GD, but it sounds like Perfect World is so incredibly corrupt/incompetent that Valve need to stop working with them because PW are pretty much the cause of so many of Dota's problems in China. The whole ruru and Anderson drama is a goddamn travesty for the scene from hiring a construction company that had no license to build the booths, getting shitty 60 Hz monitors and having Valve send BenQ 144 Hz monitors that had to have Samsung stickers put on them, cos players being locked into a room, casters being allowed in less areas than viewers, hiring the lowest bidder for production and on and on it goes. Like shit, CoL were still in Shanghai 5 hours ago because PW fucked up their flights.

Also, loved Swindle calling out the Chinese teams, especially RotK, on Reddit when apparently Chinese teams were saying they were putting in a lot of effort was pretty good.

ROTK responded by saying that if he loses to swindle at TI he will retire. It does still remain to be seen if ROTK will even qualify for TI though.

Valve's pr release said they'll be more closely involved in future majors, which is both good and bad in the sense that some of the companies were fine with the current level of involvement (ESL and Frankfurt) and this really should have been PW's tournament to manage. Yes, Valve stepped in directly firing 2gd and replacing KeyTV with basically their own skeleton crew, but the issue was PW anyways.

While there is some speculation of Chinese pressure due to 2gd's jokes about censorship, shortly after his firing was announced but no reasons were being given it was leaked that several teams had complained about the way he was treating players (calling envy mentally unstable and someone a bottom bitch). It doesn't really look as though there's one specific reason for his firing, but Valve has always been very protective of the players.

I don't think the chinese scene is going to die anytime soon, it's still the second largest playerbase after Russia. The biggest issue is that there really needs some new blood rather than just shuffling the same 20 players. Hopefully this shuffle introduces some new players to the scene. I had heard of a rumor that one of the new rosters featured a pubstar.

Meh, Chinese players seem to retire multiple times per year.

Manilla Major ticket sales broke the Filipino website that was selling them.

It told me I managed to get 4 days worth of tickets. Ended up only getting 2 days worth. At least those are the last 2 days (weekend). Guess I'll be watching the group stages from home.

    Anyone else going?
