I have to admit, I'm kinda tempted to buy this game. Problem is, I still remember getting DA2 and being horribly disappointed. I don't want to go through something similar considering the preorder is ~$50. The review embargo on it should lift soon, maybe there will be some news there that will tip it one way or the other.

I'm probably just going to torrent it, honestly. After DA2, I'm not comfortable paying for Bioware's stuff sight-unseen.

Stealing? Let's not get into that argument here.

There's a crapton of gameplay footage around, though. You can see the graphics, combat, exploration, some of how the world is set up. I think you can make a mostly educatd guess already.

After Rome 2, only after intense gaming, if it's good I will buy it. But only after all DLCs are out.

You're really going to argue with a straight face for Isabelle being nothing but a "free spirit" but start prattling on about Orm Embar being a thief? In any case, I'm sure there's a thread for that someone.

I too am going to wait and see. I want to be hyped, but...fucking Bioware.

Nah. Fuck EA. I will stick with that, Bioware isn't blameless by far, but I know EA's operandi, and DAII and built in DLCs, generic rushed games...

Nothing wrong with that, you're just using common sense, and don't want to get ripped off again. If a demo existed of the game, there might be no need for pirating, but as it is, pirating and trying the game out first is the only way to go these days, especially where EA/Bioware games are concerned.

Lol, my BS tolerance has reached its limit in this thread, adios and enjoy the fruits of some overworked (obviously inhuman) programmer's labour for nothing.

I'm willing to sacrifice ever playing MP in order to wait a year until all DLCs are out. There are pre order bonuses (a shitty thing I hate, but unless everyone stops pre ordering, games will continue to have them), it's almost guaranteed there will be day one DLC (even shittier). In a year, year and a half, there'll be an ultimate edition or something like that. Until then, I'll content myself with YT Let's Plays.

The piracy argument is pointless. This is published by EA. There's going to be so much DRM that the game will only be playable on premises owned by EA, under the supervision of an armed member of their digital security team.

There's a good chance there won't be some kind of Ultimate Edition though. Note that for DAII, there never was any kind of Ultimate Edition and DAII was mediocre at best.

I wouldn't be surprised actually. Apparently FIFA 15 had some new kind of encryption that has prevented a workable crack for it yet, a month and a half post release. If they do something similar for DA:I, the timetable might just end up like 3-4 months or so.

I shall. I'd enjoy their tears as well, but EA has no doubt siphoned them away along with the slivers of soul they demand in tribute - so I will content myself with yours.

True. But I guess if sales are shitty enough to not support an Ultimate Edition, there is likely a reason.

Also, there was barely any actual DLC for 2.

You know, beyond the starting weapons and crap, which were kind of shit in the first place.

The thing that sucked most for me about Dragon Age 2 in a DLC sense (and now definitely DAI as well) is the lack of modding available for players.

    Barely any?

Black Emporium and Exiled Prince (both day one DLC)

Signature Edition items (largely inconsequential, but the mere fact of their existance kind of pissed me off, also day one DLC)

Item Packs for all classes (lots of shiny, powerful gear)

Legacy (the one DLC I actually felt was worth the additional money, although I would argue the actual price) and Mark of the Assassin (also an additional adventure, like Legacy, I just didn't like it very much)

So yeah, Origins had more DLC (which isn't something to be applauded, imo), but DA2 still had plenty.

My main gripe with DLC is "extra" content that feels like it was in the game, but was sawed off to generate extra profit. Origins was blatantly obvious in that regard, to such a point that it was insulting to anyone with half a brain.

Pre ordering and day one DLC is a plague. Ironically, we as consumers have all the power needed to eradicate those practices, but it would require the majority to stop pre ordering games and purchasing day one DLC. Unfortunately, I don't really see that happening.

Eh, at the same time, game makers and companies need to give you incentive to actually pre-order.

I went to Gamestop the other day, and found out they only have 4 people pre-ordring Pokemon OR/AS. As such, they're gonna get a really small shipment and run out the moment they hit the shelves.

I mean, i can see your beef with Day 1 DLC, like what happened with Shale. It was DLC, that was free and it came out on day one. But Pre-order bonuses are a kind of necessary thing, to generate interest.

I disagree. We had preorders long before we had DLC, and games sold fine. Secondly, you don't need DLC to make people want to preorder - Zelda did the gold cartridge thing, Oblivion put replica Septims with the collector's edition. I can't think of any others, off the top of my head, but I know they existed.

Plus, when I preorder a book, I do it because I really want to read the book, not because I'm expecting extra content. I don't really see a difference here.
