I'll try my hand at it when I'm bored. Will probably have to be an elf for the longer face shapes.

I think I've spent more time character creating then actually playing so far. I remade my Mass Effect characters which was fun and my friends can recreate Seamus.

I guess, eventually they'll add more hair options especially like braids or fantasy type hair.

Finally finished DA:I. Ended up clocking in at 127 hours, though I left some of the smaller sidequests (and the damn shard hunting) unfinished. Incredibly fun game, though I really wish there was a cameo for our character from DA:O.

So who did you guys end up "choosing" as the new Divine? Mine ended up being Leliana but I'm kind of curious if anyone went with Divine Cassandra or Divine Vivienne.

I got Leliana in both playthroughs, fully expecting it to be Cass in my second. I was supportive of both and romanced Cass both times.

I never bothered with Viv. Couldn't talk to her for more than a few seconds without wanting to throw her off the ramparts

I was rolling through the first couple of zones on hard. Upgraded to nightmare when I unlocked specializations. Oh god... so many deaths.

Is nightmare really that hard? I imagine KE + Fade Touched Silverite = roll everyone. Before then might be hell though.

You can naturally get 100% crit with a dual wield dagger rogue. My Varric had a natural 100% crit rate for example.

Yeah.. I found nightmare only challenging till I got to the specialisations/KE. After that even that mode becomes relatively easy if you go for a completionist approach.

I would use KE more if Vivienne wasn't so flipping lame. Only good thing about her are the dialogues with Sera.

I don't think you really even need to be a KE as long as you have guard generation on a mage. Towards the mid way point, mana wasn't my problem, it was always cooldowns. I could always afford to make my own barriers and with guard generation on top of that, the game became pretty easy. I was pretty much always running with full barriers and guard except for Dragons and even then, it only managed to knock guard+barrier out before I could reapply the barrier.

Will be playing the game soon. Have heard this about Vivienne. Going to be a Mage!Iniquisitor, so the only time I'll use her is the bare minimum to get the specialization.

    Unless folks recommend otherwise?

    Screw Vivieenne.

    Cassandra
    Solas
    Blackwall

Play KE. You'll never die. You only have to grab the book off her desk, no talking necessary for the spec aside from your trainer I believe. She does give some lore tidbits about it though.

Only amusing thing about Vivienne is that she trolls Blackwall hard. I haven't really taken her out with Blackwall though after his companion quest
where we find out he's not really named Blackwall or a Gray Warden

I'm kinda curious if Vivienne trolls him even harder after, considering what happened and what we find out.

    Edit:

Speaking of companion quests, I think they really screwed the pooch with Iron Bull's. That was a perfect example of a dilemma that encompasses how each person will choose to play as their Inquisitor. The problem is that gameplay wise, one choice is superior instead of forcing you to agonize over which one best suits you.

There's no gameplay benefits at all from an alliance with the Qunari. At least if you save the Chargers, Iron Bull is a lot happier and you get the extra War Table Operations

Dorian is an awesome companion, but the least useful mage unfortunately.

Nightmare is rough for a warrior until Skyhold, then the game opens and Reaveriffic.

100% crit totally unnecessary, use anything over 50% for crit damage instead. More dps. Years of MMO exp talking.

Agreed on Dorian. He's cool, but the bug where any creature he necromances prevents an objective from being completed until it despawns is rage inducing considering the fact that you can't manually despawn it and have to just wait it out.

Also, I am a big fan of Vivienne, but I'm fine being outspoken in that regard. I always knew that not everyone would be able to handle the glorious asexual mage lady-pope.

I like her mainly because her opinions make you consider things from new angles. For instance, Orlais may seem to overly wank the whole political backstabbing deal, until you realize that because of it, Orlesian nobles make everyone else look like babies when they play the game of thrones.

I also like the way she takes the long and broad view of improving society being a matter of spreading general order and improving the standard of living, rather than Blackwall's grassroots Emiya Shirou style hero-ing.

For all her intrigue, ideologically, Vivienne is blunt as a nail - heroes and believing in the inherent goodness of man and mage is shit. The Fade is a real threat and the most proven method of minimizing damage is Templar supervision. For anyone who ever bothered to push through her dialogue, one of the ideas she walks you into is mages being a part of the sworn Chantry rather than the terror they hold on a leash. I, for one, think it's by far the most interesting and imaginative direction for the whole Mage-Templar conflict to go, nevermind the one I think most likely to bring peace in the long run.

Not to mention I dislike Cassandra or Leliana as Divine. Cassandra is god-awful at politics, and I'm not a fan of how Leliana's character progressed through Inquisition. It's not that I don't think it's a logical progression or that I actually dislike the character development itself, it's just when I put Leliana up against Vivienne, I choose Vivienne for Divine every single time. Mainly because I'd rather see the Chantry used as a tool rather than built up farther than it already is, which was just enough to nearly fuck the world over.

Leliana isn't a good choice for divine if you don't like the idea of crazy people with power.

I like Cassandra for the role specifically because she's no politician. She goes on specifically to say that the Chantry's focus should be charity (feeding the poor, etc) and that mages should govern themselves while Templars should be less specialized and a general force for good.

She also gets major points for not hating you for being an athiest/ agnostic (with that caveat that you don't think the Chantry should be burnt to the ground).

We'll obviously never agree on Vivienne, but I assure you her sexual preferences or gender have nothing to do with it.

(asexual? o_O she has a lover...)

Eh, you can manually kill the zombies... just use the spirit mark ability again.

And yeah I also liked Vievenne- but I think we had that discussion often enough.

Oh god. I had her slit that ladies throat to harden her (again) and made her divine. I felt like I made some terrifying monster and it still makes me laugh.

I read my post from 2013 and it's funny how everything more or less came true. The combat in DA3 seems to be a mess - hold down the autoattack button until your finger goes numb; an awkward marriage of "tactics" and "action" (the PC tactical view is especially bad, which was a given I think). Your race choice doesn't seem to be integrated into the game beyond the first few moments. The main villain is also a massive disappointment.

All that aside, it's certainly more enjoyable than DA2 was, but I'm glad I only gave it a cursory spin. Not my cup of tea. It's like I was playing playing KoA2 electric boogaloo.
