In terms of relationship between the series that spawned it and the success of the franchise, people saying TES can't succeed are downright stupid. What was the spawning ground of the MMO powerhouse of today, WoW? Warcraft 3 and TFT, neither of which had a particularly strong connection to the previous, railroad plots. The major storylines of those games, in a nutshell.

Horde founded, Orcs, Tauren, and Trolls band together because they are all Proud Warrior races who need help to survive.

Friction between New Horde and Alliance increases.

Archimonde invades Azeroth, everyone gangs up to gank him and the Burning Legion.

Burning Legion creates Scourge, and later the Lich King and Arthas unite. The actions leading to and post unification.

The vanilla of WoW had nothing to do with the Burning Legion. We were too busy slaying dragons, elementals, and killing other players. Second Xpac we went to Outlands to deal wig them, third we went to Northerend to deal with Arthas, and now we are back to dragons and elementals. Next Xpac:panda! And weird chi monster, plus pvp!

Compared to those plotlines, TES has much more room to manuever in.

Ignoring the argument for 'try it before you buy it' style piracy, the only one at fault is you if you bought all of that.

But rather than all of this "boohooBethesda sucks" or "fuck you you tard", I'd like to ask another question:

What are you doing to solve this problem, if you feel this is a growing trend? Not simply with Bethesda, but as a whole in the gaming world (which, sadly, it is.) Or are you just sitting around on your couch, pissing and moaning that your virtual double doesn't run as fast as you like?

On this front, I think I would rather have a user base that cares enough about a game to help out with fixing bugs as much as the developers. Because at the end of the day, you're never going to get a flawless game, and Bethesda is a profit driven business.

Yes, its fucking annoying that games are released with bugs (or worse, 0-day patching and DLC that is only an unlock in cheap coding.) But I'd rather users able to fix shit quickly than wait months for brief patch releases here and there while working on Nameless Project Number 4493.

As for the above, the creation kit makes it fairly damn easy to gut Skyrim and just use it as a base engine. You've got a problem with the game, shut up, make a total conversion, and lets see what you can come up with.

While true, I still do not believe I will play it. I love TES games, but MMOs aren't terribly attractive to me. Besides GW2 anyway.

Edit: ^Also very nice points Vash, though I don't believe Red will respond. He hasn't responded to anything else.

I find it easier to simply shut the fuck up when people show me how much my knowledge lacks in a specific area, and especially when I was being a condescending douche before I was shown up.

It seems that this is going to be an Elder Scrolls game in name only. Some facts about it:

It's being developed by Zenimax Online Studios, not Bethesda Softworks.

It's going to a be a third person, hotkey based MMO. There will be a stamina bar to allow for dodging, sprinting, and breaking crowd control. The hotbar will have limited skills and an ultimate. TL;DR: Guild Wars 2.

    No player housing.

It uses the Hero Engine, a la Star Wars: The Old Republic.

And lots of other stuff that can be found in the June Issue of Game Informer.

So basically the setting, scale, and lore will have to pull this game. Otherwise it's just going to be stuff we've all seen already.

TL;DR: a "subtle" cash-whore of the TES name.

Please tell me that picture is a very basic, untextured rough fucking draft of the final graphics. Because I am not hyped for Elder scrolls: The Cartoon.

Nah. Apparently they want to go for the Everquest/Rift aesthetic. The textures and renders may not be final with respect to the quality, but the aesthetics are likely to remain as is.

Nah, they're obviously going to Elsweyr. Got to see what kind of forest was bad enough to keep The Emperor out.

Except Elsweyr is a desert. Or so I thought.

    Also, Blackmarsh would be amazing.

Not really. Skyrim was a hell of a lot more than just Bruma x 1000.

Besides, I liked Bravil. It had character - it was much more interesting than boring old Skingrad and Chorrol, etc. The skooma den was awesome, the Night Mother lived there and you could climb all over the roofs and shit.
