I am stuck and need some help, so I figured you guys here might have an answer.

I'm stuck in Geirmunds Hall which is on a small island near the town at the bottom of the greybeard's place. At the beginning of the dungeon is a hole you drop down, and I can't get back up it. The only way forward is to kill the boss, which I can't do since he kills me in two hits and my ranged attacks are pretty much nonexistant.

I looked up the place on gamefaqs and discovered that the place is part of a triggered three-part quest, but that doesn't really help, and naturally, people in IRC just laugh at my predicament, and rightfully so.

It baffles me that you expect a different treatment here.

    LOL

But seriously, I can't help you.

Crank down the difficulty. Kill it and leave.

Cheating with the console is the only way to turn around and leave so you can fight it fairly later, from what it sounds like. If you are playing on XBox or PS3, then you're only option is to reload an earlier save if an easier difficulty isn't enough. But even if you're ranged skill is practically non-existent, as long as you actually have the equipment necessary you should see if you can just wear it down. Hopefully you took full advantage of the weightless arrows in Skyrim and carried around enough to do the job.

If you don't have earlier saves to load, we really can't make fun of you enough.

I have never once overwritten a save. I'm up to about 1000 total now.

It's actually an annoyance really. If you have several characters, you have to scroll down the saves until you find your character. I wish they had separated it like Dragon Age did, where each character had his own saves screen.

If there were a mod that inserted the character name into the file name, that would be useful.

Buy a spell called Clairvoyance, it literally paints a road for you to take. It may not be the shortest path but it will always get you where you need to be.

Yeah, the path to the Greybeards is part of what annoyed me. High Hrothgar looks very close to Whiterun, but you actually have to go all the way around the mountain it's on to the other side, where there's a town called Ivarstead. From there, there is a long path up the mountain called the 7000 steps (and it's long enough that it may actually be 7000 steps). This path, naturally, is somewhat dangerous, and usually has at least two or three frost trolls waiting to attack you.

When I got the quest, an icon for Ivarstead appeared on my map, so you should be able to find it if you just keep skirting around the mountains.

I did and I'm fairly sure I either have a bug or someone's fucking with me, because it keeps leading me into goddamn rivers and stops right there.

@azrael: yeah, I'm on my way to Ivarstead now. Stopped at Darkwater Crossing, stole a couple of ores and ended up massacring the entire camp because fuck the Stormcloaks trying to arrest me and those people trying to stay out of the war. Especially that little kid, fucking bitch.

    ...

And to think, this was supposed to be my Heroic Nord! character. :sherlock:

Why would you need to steal ore? It's almost literally everywhere; all you have to do is carry around a pickaxe. There's a mod called Glowing Ore Veins that really helps with locating it if you're having trouble.

Glowing Ore + the mod that lets you scale the map all the way in is like having ore GPS. Just go out at night, pop the map and zoom in, and you can see it easy. Of course the map mod has made it at times so I couldn't load the overworld coming out of dungeons a good... oh 12+ times now, so use it at your own risk.

Because when I play an RPG, I don't play to farm and I find it amusing to steal from Stormcloaks. Plus they had a smelter and it was only a couple of ores. It wasn't worth dying over.

Also three things to note & ask:

The Greybeards rename you Ysmir Stormcrown (but don't change your actual character name). I find that to be insanely badass and if I ever write a fanfiction of Skyrim, plan to remember that.

Seriously, Ysmir Stormcrown. How epic is that?

Second, can houses be robbed, and more specifically, the Whiterun house? I had left Lydia there, but she apparently leaves if I leave her there too long. While I'm not fussed (don't really care about followers, will just have to remember to take all my shit off of her), I don't want all my valuable stuff getting stolen.

Third, what's better: Joining or destroying the Dark Brotherhood.

    First, yeah, pretty badass.

Second, not that I'm aware of. But if you're telling her to wait in the house, you're doing it wrong. If you've bought the house, just tell her it's time to part ways, and she'll go live there (only works for the whiterun house ).

    Joining, by a huge margin.
