Honestly, if you're fairly well versed in the world views of groups like The Golden Dawn or Crowley, the whole thing makes a perfect sense. You just have to be unfazed by the fact that multiple contradictory facts can be simultaneously true.

I literally can't accept that. I'm too used to one established canon, and dealing with something like this is interesting, but frustrating from a writing or in-game perspective.

Wait, they're all true? Both the Orthodoxy & the Heresy? So Talos is both Tiber and Tiber/Ysmir/Zurin?

Well, that sentence makes sense. No sarcasm.

Never read it. Not a fan of a lot of Gaiman's works. He does great stuff, just doesn't appeal to me.

I really can't handle that, speaking personally. It's killing my planning for my Skyrim story as well, since I like to go in-depth and set up an intense background for everything so I don't stumble on the way. Specifically speaking, I'm concerned with how to portray the Dovahkiin when interacting with others. I have his character down and how he ends up in Helgen as well as the storyline progression, I'm just struggling with how to establish his existence.

    Edit:
Never mind. Dovahkiin = Shezzarine gogogogo! It'll also make the planned speech to the heroes of Sovngarde rather ironic.

Then that's a personal problem you have with understanding the universe and not something that you can whitewash over in your search for an explanation. It's a fundamental quality of the universe, like Mass in our's. That's alright though - you can write a Skyrim fic without touching the Lore side of TES. The last time I took a look at Lamora's fic, that was what he was doing. Don't use the word 'shezzarine' anywhere and you can ignore the entire weird side of the universe. Most people reading your fic will understand fuck-all of what's being said here anyway.

I think I've said this before, but the overly-complicated background info really hurts my interest in TES.

It's not a whitewashed explanation I'm seeking, but rather being able to create a cohesive 'background universe' for the story. I'm not going in-depth into all of Kirkbride's stuff when writing the story, this is for my own peace of mind.

Ask Inert how many layers I've built into my dormant Naruto fic that aren't even remotely near getting into the story, like the post-apocalypse background, or the historical development of shinobi & samurai, or things that won't be relevant until the sequel like what Madara's been up to with his experiments or the tens of rejected arcs I've put aside that could probably make up short stories. So much background info that will never be available to the reader, but is simply there for me to look at and use to pace the story and create layers even with one-arc characters. It's just how I do things. I create and collect the necessary information, and then I expand it into arcs and an overall storyline.

Lamora's greatest strength is creating highly emotional and visual scenes. You can feel like you're actually there in the story watching shit go down, or being present as the tale is told by some bard. Sadly, that's not mine.

I actually love it. Kirkbride & co. did an awesome job with making it feel real and interesting. It's just a bitch when doing fanfiction prep.

Dead doesn't mean gone in Elder Scrolls. It means their soul enters the Dreamsleeve, and once they are fully stripped of their identity, they are reincarnated. Beings of sufficient power or binds to reality can remain themselves in the Dreamsleeve, and interact with the world. Dagoth Ur is one such example - in a horrific inversion of CHIM, he is seeing the Wheel from the Dreamsleeve, and instead of the | of the Tower he sees ∞. That's why his body disappears when you kill him in Morrowind and he reappears when you enter the next room - it's not really him, because he's in the Dreamsleeve and just projecting himself into Mundus.

Point is, dead doesn't mean gone nor powerless. They as an entity can still be lingering in the Dreamsleeve, and the them-shaped hole they left in reality can still be filled (mantled) by another.

Hashasheen, it might be a good mental exercise to wrap your mind around the Sermons of Vivec to get a better handle on the two-contradictory-facts-can-be-true thing. You've got the lives of Vivec (who always existed and is a God and never betrayed Nerevar) and Vehk (who was born mortal, fathered by Almalexia, and betrayed Nerevar to ascend to Godhood) and both are absolutely true and real.

Agreed. I've probably put 800 or so hours into the Elder Scrolls series over the years, and most of this discussion is going over my head. Trying to read the lore section of the BGSF forums is basically like me trying to read a thesis on quantum physics in Korean.

    Link.

Looks like we're finally getting some DLC.

I should probably start playing this again now, I've only spent a handful of hours on it since getting sidetracked back in December.

The best thing from that article are all the trolls in the comment section about Ex bawkz getting the DLC first. Guess people forgot about that announcement from Beth, a few months before the game release.

From what I've heard, Microsoft wouldn't put the game on Ex bawkz if Beth didn't give them some exclusivity.

    Dawnguard trailer.

Crossbows, mounted combat and super-vampire-things. Might be cool.

I hope to hell that we're able to side with the vampires and cast the sun into darkness forever.

Shame it's unlikely. We didn't get to cover the world in sexy dragons, after all.
