I'm sure there have been a couple of threads on this topic over the years, but its been a while, and there have been new moments and new members, so.......

This thread is meant to be those moments in fanfiction that really struck a chord with you when you read them -- those memorable moments you will probably remember for a long time. It doesn't matter if its an emotional scene or a duel or a particularly hilarious moment or an epic conversation, if it was memorable (in a good way), it belongs here.

I'll start off :

Dumbledore realizing who the girl he danced with really was in A Long Journey Home. Hilarious scene.

Jamie Potter showing her true colors to Dumbledore in Equal and Opposite.

Harry going all murder-death-kill with his paper birds in Prince of the Dark Kingdom. Also, the whole clusterfuck at Malfoy Manor.

Several moments in Backwards with Purpose -- the Azkaban massacre and the flurry of patronuses at the end are especially memorable. The scene in Yellow Submarine when Arthur realizes why Ginny hates him. Blood chilling stuff. Deadwoodpecker is awesome -- don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Voldemort's resurrection in The Denarian Renegade.

The last couple of chapters of The Very Secret Diary. Pretty much all of Cauterize and The Wendell That Wasn't.

The Phoenix and the Serpent : "I am Dahlia". Also, Dahlia's whole fight with the dementor king and its aftermath and pretty much all of chapter 22 of that fic.

Finally, Harry completely snapping in the Lestrange fight in On the Way to Greatness. That was the gold standard for a Harry-completely-loses-it scene -- it had been foreshadowed for a while, and Holy Fuck, it was glorious. Also, the whole DoM fight and the conversation with Hermione about Muggles. Awesome fic.

 

Harry & Sirius vs Voldemort in ABC. Holy shit, what an awesome duel.

The transfigured puppy in a wheelchair in ABC. Comedy gold. A different kind of epic.

Harry almost strangles a guy in PotDK. That was a good scene.

The aerial battle in Wastelands. I think it was in Wastelands. Or was it in Heartlands?

Harry cutting through DoM black ops team in CR. People observing from the Ministry going all "who the fuck is this guy?"

First Task in TLIL. Need I say more?

The entire Azkaban chapter in RC.

 

The final chapter of Substitute was amazing for me.

 

Voldemort vs Merlin in Demon's Feign

Harry vs Dumbeldore in Catharisis

Fleur riding a Cereberus in Stalking Blood Sack.

Basically everything by nuhuh

 

Partial to IP82's fic where Harry kills all of the Weasleys and mocks them while they are dying (but feels strangely empty afterwards, seeing as they are too busy screaming to properly hear his monologue). Half-sickening, half-holy shit that's dark.

Can also remember a Harry/Tonks fic where Ginny murders Tonks. Also had an amazing Dobby fighting to his death scene (years before DH) and Fleur transforming into a fireball throwing bird. Pretty sure if I read it now it would be awful, but at the moment I read it, it was epic.

What else? I'm trying to think of a good romance one, but its hard. Thought it was pretty epic in Hogwarts Battle School when Harry is fighting Malfoy and fries Hermione up as well.

Can't remember the fic, (perhaps Death Eaters of Hogwarts?) but there is one where Ron and Hermione are being held captive, and Peter goes up to Hermione to say "oh, I can smell Harry on you" like a total bitch slap to Ron.

Too early for one of these threads. Not thinking properly yet.

hmm... Durmstrang arriving by ship in The Other Boy Who Lived

there was one time Tonks turned into Molly Weasley in a smut fic but I forget what that was called, fucking hilarious though.

 

"There never was a Sally-Anne Perks."

That probably deserves a spoiler, Palindrome.

Yeah, this one always makes my list of memorable moments in fanfiction. It reminds me of the cellar scene in McCarthy's The Road, where you're reading along, thinking "Whatever it is, what my mind is conjuring up is sure to be more dreadful than the reveal," and then you're thinking, "Oh. That's actually way worse than I was imagining."

(Arthur's response to said events is also pretty memorable.)

 

I think the most epic thing I've ever read is chapter 17 in the Denarian Knight, where Harry goes "Happy fucking Christmas, you old bastard." I don't know why, but it's still one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Oh, and then there's gem of a line from "twins" chapter 7.

"Found it!" She called out. Then in a very quiet voice she murmured, "Your cum has been leaking out of me all day. It's fucking annoying."

IDKW, but those are some pretty epic lines in my opinion.

 

I don't know which fic it was, but the one where Dumbledore turns Harry into a chair or something, puts his feat up on it and proceeds to light up his pipe.

It was one of the few okay "Manipulative!Dumbledore" I've read and that scene was one of the most awesome "Know your place you little shit" moments I'd so long wanted for basically all the shitty Indy!Harrys.

 

I'm pretty sure most of the action scenes have been mentioned; but in terms of epic dialogue

"Railroad the Bitch."

 

While the fic might not be everyone's cup of tea on DLP, the scene in Emperor where Harry arrives to fight Jaeger (the first time) is epic.

Also +1 to Stan's mention of Dumbledore realizing the girl he danced with in A Long Journey Home

 

Whatever happened to Bromance! Every line is gold in the fic.

 

Harry comes back for revenge at the epilogue of Elizium for the Sleepless Souls.

 

I remember this, it was awesome. Can anyone tell me what this is from again?

 

Turn Me Loose: A Harry Potter Adventure

 

If I'm remembering correctly, I'm pretty sure that was from Jbern's Turn Me Loose

 

Harry killing the dragon in Control. Not only is it written incredibly well, it's a moment of total narrative catharsis. The use of blood magic at the end has such a massive amount of weight that the writing style even shifts to accommodate it.
Second favorite moment would be the entirety of chapter 2 from CR, no-one writes trauma like Swim.

 

One of the best things about the scene in TML is the timing: for a couple of chapters (if I remember right), Harry kept coming out on top of pretty much every confrontation. He starts getting annoyingly cocky and then Dumbledore walks over and bitchslaps him. Golden.

 

No it doesn't; it's a piece of recurring dialogue that starts right from the very beginning, leading into the whole mystery.
