Regarding Project Athia, I just saw this on reddit, which has my brain spinning.



Sure the Luminous devs might just be reusing assets, but making this look soooooo much like the Duscae region seems a little too intentional to me. Given that Athia's main char wears modern sneakers and she's pulled into "a world not her own", I think we're looking at Eos.

I'm really really REALLY hoping this ends up being a world hopping game where we get to revist a bunch of different FF / Squenix worlds in different time periods. Dissidia already established that the FF series is a giant multiverse connected by 'The Void.' I'd love to see Spira before the Machina War, Gaia before Jenova's crash, Ivalice during the Ydoran Empire etc etc.

$7.5bn... three times as much as minecraft... i mean, Skyrim sold really well... but 7.5bn...?

They already had Obsidion who would have made a better game. This seems like such a waste.

What is funny though is that Bethesda now has two console exclusives on ps5 lol...

 

Do remember, Zenimax is more than just Bethesda Game Studios. They own Arkane, id, Machine Games, etc, and a whole host of really popular IP on top of that.

I'm pretty sure that between Skyrim, Fallout, Doom, Dishonored, Prey, Wolfenstein, and whatever else I can't remember off-hand, there's more than enough to justify the price.

 

Wait so long for a esvi and this happens. Sucks for me since now I'll gave to buy a series s for esvi when it comes out in 10 years.

 

Oh I know all that, but their problem is that all their IP sell really softly. I think maybe Doom is the only one with decent sales figures, if that?

 

You guys should really go read all the press releases. They're gonna be publishing these games on Playstation and Nintendo consoles too.

I feel like their strategy is just going to be 'You can play our games on Playstation and pay $70 (they get 70% of that and win) or come play on xbox or PC and pay $10 (they still win).'

 

No, they're not. They said they will honor standing contractual obligations, i.e. Deathloop and Ghostwire, but everything else will be looked at on a case by case basis. I get it though, Sony fanboys feel like they have to invent reasons why this simply has to come to Playstation consoles as well, because why wouldn't Microsoft wouldn't want more money, while conveniently ignoring the fact that Sony doesn't do that.

 

I can't wrap my head around Microsoft's decision here. They must be thinking long long long term, because even if they made Elder Scrolls, Dishonored, and every other current major property under the ZeniMax umbrella xbox exclusive from here on out, I really don't see them recouping that 7.5 billion in game profits / console sales anytime soon.

Maybe they are looking to spread tech and talent around to their other holdings? Or maybe they just have so much money they don't really care about the risk.

 

They're doing more-or-less what Epic did with the EGS and throwing money at their platform to capture marketshare. It's the view to get people onto the platform now and worry about monetizing it later.

 

It's all about gamepass khan. It's at 15 million subscribers now up from 10 million in April. The lowest tier of which is now $10. They're trying to make it harder and harder not to subscribe to it. If it really takes off they could make endless boatloads of money from it.
