I'm looking forward to Pillars of Eternity a lot. Including the HD versions I have played through Baldurs gate 1, 2, Icewind Dale 1 2 and Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 probably dozens of times. The HD versions were 'ok'. Multiplayer is inheriently awkward in them and for me I get a lot more out of games when they have a proper multiplayer element.

I can game with my family(4 brothers 3 sisters total) or friends I don't get to see in person that often. So I was soured on the HD remakes because of this, we had lots of crashing and issues even joining.

I'm not even sure if Pillars of Eternity has a co-op, I'll be picking it up either way.

 

They both specifically mention Torment as one of their major influences. Numenera is a more direct successor since its pretty much made to be the next Torment (hence the whole name thing) but Pillars specifically mentions Icewind Dale, Torment, and Baldur's Gate as what they are looking to emulate.

 

So Dragon Ball Xenoverse was delayed... Fuck.

 

Shit. When is it gonna release? I know that originally it was gonna come out in February.

Just saw Xenoverse on Steam. For those following it, how does it look? I never played any of the older games.

 

I'm interested in Xenoverse as a life-long Dragonball fanboy, but fuck everything about all the pre-purchase stuff and the three paid DLC packages they're already announcing. God damn, that stuff is annoying.

 

Looks pretty good right now but because things are in real time the majin race can't transform in battle

Also earthlings seem to have pretty good stats with their regenerating ki and high attack

 

I am now debating Battlefield 4 Premium. The one with the 59.99 USD price tag.

From what I hear they've finally fixed the netcode and its got its 5 xpacs so... Thoughts? You're throwing money away? It still sucks?

 

If you play and like battlefield, get it. It's been fully functional for a long time.

 

I did like BC2 and BF3... Ach they've got this free game time thing I might as well check it out.

Edit: played my first multiplayer match. Lost. But goddamnit I had fun!

But what I really want to talk about is the story.

Sigh.

Damnit Battlefield. Look if you want to have a singleplayer story campaign to compete with CoD and MoH(really just CoD now since MoH got beaten into the ground with its "reboot")

You might want to put a little more effort into it.

Granted following on from BF3 not really a high bar but you did improve. I actually cared about my squad. It did seem pretty moving the first time you you see Dunn(heh is that CoD reference. I think it is.) except... The game seems to make it seem like you guys had history and its a real loss to the team Buuuuuuut...

I didn't really care. I had... All of one mission with the guy. Am I supposed to feel. Sorrow?

By the way this pops again.

But next mission, ooh spec ops like, extract VIPs dont kill anyone.

And we have unsilenced weapons. Greaaaat. And its not me that fucks it up, its my AI buddies. Goddamnit. I was actually kind of looking forward to stealth section.

And some of the twists...

I wouldnt say its Predictable. I mean it is but that doesnt seem to be the right description for it.

Of course the Chinese agent we had join our squad betrays us.

Of course the Chinese agent was actually double agent.

Of course the squad leader dies. Again. After One level.

Of course we lose a squad member.

Of course he's Wait he's alive. DAFUQ.

I was expecting him to go all Manchurian candidate on me, cause the other squaddie was talking about finding him when we were locked up in a prison.

Except we go put some C4 on a ship. I have to sacrifice a squad member.

And then the game ends.

What.

At least BF3 had a fucking ending. It was a pretty shit one but come on.

BF4: Okay you blows up da ship. You winz... yaaaaay!

Me: Wait what about the Chinese President? Pac, the guy who crawled through shit with a hole in his stomach? how did he get back to the ship?

And I really think the story wanted to tie itself to BF3 and it does but guess what, The only tie is by a character that we saw at the very end of the last game and he, predictably, lasts for one level and then dies, with only one line mentioning him.

This game really wants to keep telling you that you're squad leader and then never lets you do anything with it. The most you've got out of it is telling your team to attack a bunch of targets. There were multiple times that I wished there was some dialogue options so I can cut through this cringe worthy cliche ridden dialogue scenes.

Multiple times I wanted a "Your objection/concerns are noted. Now shut the fuck up and get back to the goddamn mission!" option.

The SP campaign also gave me a taste of MP.

In that it gave me a taste of "WHAT THE FUCK. HOW DID I DIE?!" and "WHO THE FLYING. FUCK. IS. SHOOTING. AT. ME!?"

Seriously EA/Dice. Just... Just fucking stop with the goddamn single player shit. That or fucking step up your game and allocate more of the budget to it. Do it right or dont do it at all!

 

In Crapcom news, Dragon's Dogma is getting some kind of online multiplayer Japan-only mobile game.

All we wanted was a not-shit PC release. :facepalm

 

Dragons Dogma online is a FTP PC MMO.

Well I'd still prefer a good PC version of the original game than some MMO. Primarily for higher resolutions and modding.

 

I might have misspoken when I said MMO. Looks more like Diablo/ M Hunter.

So for anyone who picked it up, what's the general consensus on Dying Light? I've heard some people say that it's just Dead Island without the humor, but I've had some people say it was more a cross of Dead Island and Mirror's Edge.

What would you guys slate it as, for those of us who've played it?

 

Looks like far cry meets dead rising to me. General consensus is positive.
