The utter shittiness of AC3 murdered and raped the corpse of any desire to play the series that I had. The gameplay might have been good but all I can remember of it is how goddamn much I loathed fucking Connor. I just hope that in later games the Templars won and teach kids in schools how not to be Connor.

    Fuck Connor.

Dunno why you're surprised that the new Tomb Raider was good, the reboot was really fun and this one brings even more metroidiness to the fore.

As for Assassin's Creed, I've played them all bar 3 - I may have been heavily into WoW at that point and missed a lot of games, yay me!

People like to talk a lot of shit about the others, but I feel it's more a situation of familiarity breeding contempt.

I've platinumed 4, 5 and 6 and enjoyed them all. Especially with 6 where they've stopped...

... making the endings such bummers

They're not perfect, a part of me wishes they were more arcadey (and a bigger part of me desperately hopes for a Pirate's Creed), but they're all good.

    Bar 3, apparently.

RE: Rise of the Dawn of Tomb Raider : ORIGINS

The title is the only bad part of the game from what I gather, it's become one of the games I want day one when I get an Xbox, the others being Scalebound (squee!) and Halo 5.

    RE: AC Syndicate

Taking a break for a few days, I've beaten sequence 1-7 and WW I, collected every gold chest, every flower, every beer bottle, half the "Secrets of London" and a bunch of random chests and Helix Glitches and conquered every burrough, and only have a couple memories left in sequence 8. As I've said before here and elsewhere, every AC before Syndicate made me sleepy, even the cool pirate one, they just weren't for me.
    I recommend this highly.

Been playing MGS V some more, I've cleared story through mission 41, mostly playing Side Ops to clear them out, though my game completion is only 59% so far. This is my GotY no contest, and I loved The Witcher: III

Also picked up inFamous Second Son and Shadow of Mordor GotY edition on black Friday, and I've been playing DQ IV on my 3DS on and off when I have spare time. I've played a couple hours of inFamous so far and while it's not amazing it's fun so far.

    Ollie's gaming minute :D

come swing by #OlliePlays on IRC sometime, where if there's discussion, it'll probably be me playing Persona 4 Golden (picking back up tomorrow) while ChaosGuy hates on the game.

On other news, there is no single bullshit that is more bullshit than Bloodborne getting GOTY.

    Fuck. What the hell?

Witcher 3 won game of the year, not Bloodborne.

    As everyone knew it would.

That was earlier in the year, was it not?

Perhaps what I read about Bloodborne was false. I'm glad if it's so.

Witcher 3 won, Bloodborne is just getting a GOTY edition released.

Psychonauts 2 is getting made with support from crowdfunding. Only up for a day, and it's nearly halfway done... As everyone knew it would be. Hope Doublefine doesn't fuck it up.

    MORE IMPORTANTLY.

Witcher 3 getting GOTY means that CD Projekt Red has to fulfill their promise of giving Cyberpunk 2077 a full budget.

I am so hyped. The Witcher series might've been a national Polish treasure, but a lot of the CD Projekt Red team are basically cult fanatics of Cyberpunk 2077, so they're not going to fuck it up, not with their talent and rep and funds. We know nothing about the game other than the original material and call me a fanboy, but I know it's going to be fucking amazing.

I don't much care for cyberpunk, to be honest. I'd rather they kept on expanding the Witcher universe. I'll check out cyberpunk because I trust CDPR, but even if it's awesome, I'll still lament the potential wasted.

And I get it, they want to separate themselves from 'that studio that did witcher' and have more to their name than their flagship, so to speak. That doesn't make me feel better.

Not really. I know some of th guys there and knows a friend who knows a lot more, and the core dev team's thoughts are more or less that the Witcher was a valuable source of income and a great learning experience, but now they have the resources to do what they really want, and Cyberpunk is something most of the old guard there loves to death. They still enjoy the Witcher, but Geralt's journey is done, and I feel as if it's respextable that they don't want to ruin a good ending. There is a chance they'll return after Cyberpunk, though, though not with Geralt.

Don't worry, the dev team loves Cyberpunk. A lot of them have been playing since release, at least the older ones. They're not giving up a chance to make a game there.

Iknow the devs won't shut up about Cyberpunk, and I know that they said Witcher is done. I disagree with 'a good ending', unless you're talking about Witcher 3 as a whole. If you're referring to the final slide that narrates Geralt's fate after the game, that was extremely dissapointing, to see choices spanning the entire game reduced to two lines of narration on a single fucking picture, without a drop of animation or detail to it.

What I'm trying to say is that Geralt's character has been left pretty open-ended and could potentially be used again, though I know CDPR won't consider anything of the sort before Cyberpunk is done.

Regarding Cyberpunk 2077, I thought they said that we weren't going to see anything before they were done with Witcher 3 and its expansions, so... 2017?

Don't get me wrong, I love The Witcher, loved the books too, but all the same I really like having the option to customize my character and not have too much of a predefined story and background, which Cyberpunk 2077 will hopefully deliver. I'm really eager to see how they're going to handle the sanity mechanic, given that if you put too much cyberware in your body, or straight out replace it with cybernetics, you go full "MUST KILL ALL MEATBAGS" mode. I really, really hope it's not just a flat, hard-line that says "Here, this is the limit you cannot cross, otherwise it's game-over the second you do".

Anyway onto some not really important gaming news:

Total War: Warhammer developer "disheartened" by pre-order DLC reaction

Apparently, it came as a surprise to CA that people weren't thrilled by the fact that they made one of the core factions of Warhammer Fantasy part of their pre-order/buy after release DLC bullshit.

One particular quote from this interview pisses me off:

They're cutting crucial, core content from the game and forcing people to pay for it, and if they don't, they just say "Well, you chose to not have a better experience by not purchasing our DLC, that's on you, totally not on us."

The gaming industry needs an enema.

On the subject of Bloodborne though, I've been meaning to try it and I'll probably wait for this GOTY version now.

Wait, how is Bloodborne winning hypothetical GOTY awards not expected, or at the least justified?

Best game this year for me. By far.

FFVII remake gameplay at psx. Go find it, lol. Battles look like FFXV, unsurprisingly, and great news.
