I hope the pet combat system is scrapped. It was a story trailer, so couldn't tell.

Its more about IP. CDPR outright own Cyberpunk 2077, something they could never do with Witcher.

 

Latest Uncharted looks absolutely gorgeous. Also, you can influence the scenes with dialogue options. Doesn't look too obtrusive, neither would it derail the story -- just a nice bit of interactivity, I guess.

 

I've gone full blackout with Uncharted 4 now, I feel like I've already seen too much.

 

FFVII remake will apparently be released in multiple parts.

Welp, looks like they're going to milk it for all they can.

They're saying it's because of size reasons (i.e. the game will be too large for a single blue ray). This probably means they are incorporating all the story elements from the side stories and related material.

And I'm totally cool with that. They will have my money regardless.

 

If they broke it into, like, arcs that are more fleshed out - that'd be cool.

Costa del Sol and Golden Saucer arcs would be awesome, lol.

 

I'm against truly episodic releases, especially for a story we already basically know. I hope they're taking it in the direction of like 3 full 25-35 GB games.

I wonder how many DLC it'll have? I'm expecting at least a couple for Yuffie and Vincent. Maybe a Golden Saucer minigame pack and another one for chocobo raising.

 

It's unclear. They've stated that they'll be adding lots of material to flesh out the world and story. What that material is has yet to be revealed.

How many discs is FFVII on PSX? also while many may know the story, I don't other than some random spoilers/specifics, and I think that breaking up the game into several parts is ok, especially if they maybe cut the price slightly per installment.

Besides isn't FF X technically several games? and while I know enough to hate a lot about XIII that's three full games that are each separate. So FF VII as several games isn't new ground for the franchise even if it's a change from the release twenty years earlier.

 

Four discs, though I'm a bit fuzzy on whether the division of the game between discs would correlate well to the division of "episodes" here.

As for FFX, no, it's one game with a sequel. Same with FFXIII to my knowledge.

 

Three discs, for the original.

FFX is one game. It also has a shitty sequel, and a shittier audio thing that's a sequel to an amazingly bad sequel novel, which was intended to be the opening for a third game.

FF7 was a single game. It has several spin offs and sequels of varying quality, but they're no more FF7 then Silent Hill 2 is the same as Silent Hill: Book of Memories, or then the Tomb Raider reboot is the same as the movie series, or then all the Harry Potters are the same book.

It's not the idea of spin-offs and sequels that's an issue. That was just going to happen. The problem is if they're planning to release disc one-three separately at $60 a pop, in which case they can go fuck themselves.

I dunno. For me, it's really going to depend on the size and composition of each 'part'.

I really don't think Square's marketing execs are so moronic that they'd charge 150+ for the classic story divided into parts. If they do, god forbid, go the route of true episodic and have each part be around 10-20GB per game, you can probably expect each of them to roll in around 60-80 USD / number of total episodes.

But if it's two or three full games sitting pretty at 50+ GB each with tons of new content from the side stories and stuff (and that does seem to be the case right now: there are few interviews stating that each part will have content equal to a full PS4 game), then yeah, it's somewhat reasonable to expect us to drop 60 bucks for each part.

 

The only game I've bought this year new is Fallout 4. It's a bigger question if I'd have bought it in the first place then if this can convince me not to.

Yeah, I'd be fine with that. If each installment is well and truly a full game, with all the content I would expect from any other RPG worth the name, then I'm fine with paying $60 per installment. But if they drop the story a third of the way through with a 'to be continued', or have most of the new shit on DLC? Fuck that.
