I've logged 50+ hours on the game so far and it's as much fun as I remember, with the added bonus of better detail. Can't imagine doing the less than 13 hours quest with it, but then, I never accomplished that one on PS1 either. It was well worth the 20 bucks for me.

Now bring FF8 back for the same price and I'll cop that too.

Yeah it's half off, only $6. And the Steam version comes with "cheats" as well, that you can activate. The best, by far, is the Magic Booster, which gives all your characters 100 copies of a bunch of low-mid level spells. This saves a ton of time drawing, but also makes you kinda overpowered the entire early game.

I'd been wondering how long it would take before one of those big fps franchises went back to classic wars. The pseudo-futuristic shit they've been putting out lately has felt tired for a while now. It will be interesting to see if this is a one off or if it triggers a bunch of new ww1 and ww2 games.

 

Well, I kind of doubt this game will be strictly historically accurate if they want to preserve the sort of gameplay they've had in the last few games.

 

I don't think any historical shooter has ever been particularly accurate.

 

I mean moreso than usual. They might have to strip out weapon modding (well, maybe just scopes and bayonets?), biplanes don't really fly like jets, carrying around machineguns would be quite a bit harder back then, etc.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - The Mechanical Apartheid

 

Wow that Mechanical Apartheid trailer is really cool. Those of you who have played Deus Ex games: has the same plot been going since the first? I get the impression that Adam Jensen is new as of Human Revolution, is that correct? is he the new main character in an ongoing plotline since game 1, or was Human Revolution a (soft?) reboot of those games?

I know nothing about the Deus Ex series, I have all of the games, and iirc 1 is one of the best PC games ever, but 2 (is that The Fall) is bad, so is 3 (Invisible War? is that even a Deus Ex game?), but Human Revolution is also quite good. how on point am I? are more of them worth playing than 1, HR and (hopefully) this new one?

 

Human Revolution's a prequel, and Adam Jensen wasn't thought up until HR. I guess you could consider HR a soft reboot, though it didn't negate any continuity or anything that I'm aware of. I think the main connection to DX1, which takes place a few decades later, is in the creation of nanotech augmentations and the goings-on of the secret societies. (Disclaimer: I've yet to actually beat DX1, but it's been out long enough and talked about so much I that I've picked up a lot.)

DX1 and HR are considered good (though DX1 is favored), whereas people try to forget Invisible War (DX2) exists. I think The Fall was a side-game of some sort? Never looked into it.

 

Invisible War is 2, The Fall is a mobile port based on Human Revolution (never played it). Every game had its own plot, but the main themes have been pretty much the same: government/private sector and humanity/augmentation are pretty much the key conflicts. Jensen is indeed new to HR, it also takes place before 1 and 2.

HR is a pretty good game, although you can't take a stealth approach to most of the boss fights. They might have fixed that in the Director's Cut, it got a lot of criticism. 1 is a really good game, but the graphics are dated and might not be your cup of tea. Good overview but one small caveat: Director's cut makes tweaks to the gameplay with the big one being that stealth is now possible for the entire game.
