--The final battle is over. Harry Potter stands victorious after defeating his life time nemesis, Lord Voldemort. Word spreads not only around Britain of their hero's win, but all around the world. But with the gossip also travels the news that Harry Potter is now the true master of the Elder Wand.

A week after the final battle, Harry Potter is in high heaven. He survived, his friends are alive and he is now dating Ginny Weasley full time. Everything is fine until the first assassination attempt on his life. After a messy battle for both men Harry defeats the assassin and questions him. He finds that the man is after the Elder Wand. A few days later another attempt on his life happens, but this time he fights someone with no morals, in the ensuing battle Ginny is caught in the crossfire and is killed.

Harry soon realizes that he isn't safe. And that the people coming for the Elder wand won't hesitate to use his friends as bargaining chips. Harry decides to leave. He does what Albus Dumbledore wanted to do, he travels the world. But unlike Dumbledore, Harry is doing this to protect himself and his loved ones. Traveling the world he learns various forms of magic, sharpens his skill, etc.

After years of traveling around the world avoiding and battling would be assassins, Harry, now truly battle hardened, returns to England.

When he gets back home he doesn't find everything as it was. The reconstruction of the ministry didn't go as planned, instead the Ministry is in shambles run by corrupt and incompetent politicians. That is just the tip of the ice berg, the British Wizarding world has fallen into poverty, people are miserable, crime is a common occurrence, etc.

As for his loved ones, he finds Ron and Hermione are engaged and is truly happy for them.

Word spreads of Harry's return and the wizarding world believes that the man that will save them again has returned to fix their world.--

Challenge: Write a fic where Harry runs after numerous attempts on his life for the Elder wand. Write about some of his adventures around the world, either using flashbacks or dedicate a whole arc to his traveling. And write about his return and his impact on the wizarding world because of his return.

Rules:

1) No Harry/Ginny, hence why Ginny is dead.

2) Harry must have some impact with his return. Best course would be politics. He will be reluctant to do it, especially when people offer him the Minister position.

3) No Albus Severus at any point within the fic.

4) Harry must not be a pussy like canon. His traveling made him smart and skilled and his fighting off assassins made him dangerous when forced to fight. In other words, if Voldemort were alive Harry could hold his own in a proper duel.

5) There should be some Dark wizard surge of some kind along with possible assassination attempts.

6) It is up to the author if Harry keeps the Elder Wand or not. However, keep in mind that Harry is/was the known carrier of the Elder Wand. Pleople will still come after him if only just to claim they have beaten the Master of the Elder Wand. That is why he must run.

Err, wouldn't Harry just destroy Elder wand, instead of running away?

And why would he travel around the world to protect his friends? He can do that equally by just staying away from them or moving to a different country and assuming a new identity?

IMO you need a better way for getting Harry from point A (wanting to start a family with Ginny and nothing to do with Elder wand) to point B (dumping Ginny and traveling the world, using Elder wand).

And since this transformation is basically the crux of your challenge, I'd say it needs some more work.

 

Even if he destroys it, that won't stop people from attacking him. People would believe that he is lying so that no one comes after him. So even if he destroys it he is still in danger from people who want the wand he no longer has. Fact is, Harry knows he beat Voldemort by chance and that eventually he will be killed by one of these assassins. Hiding under a different name could work for a while, but that won't help him in the long run. Staying stationary would make him an easier target. What greater title would a person want than being known as the person who defeated the holder of the Elder Wand? Even if he doesn't have it people will come after him.

 

I honestly think that Ginny should be killed or at least removed from the story, because having her engaged to someone else will only create a lot of inevitable angst and pining.

 

Actually that makes more sense, I think I am going to change it so that she dies.
