Couldn't agree more. Don't know why I didn't see it coming though.

Welp. Got my hands on it, and it's a national holiday in my country tomorrow. Stars are pretty much aligned for me.

Against my better judgment I bought it and pre-loaded it. I don't have a whole lot of faith in it, but it's my birthday next weekend and I wanted to get something.

I haven't looked at the F3 mods in a long time, does anyone know if anyone made one that betters the shooting? Curious if I can expect the same for F4.

Reports are the shooting is a lot better in this installment, but watching reviews / let's plays shows me... Not by much.

Btw, if you have the choice, don't get the console versions. This isn't like Witcher, supposedly, the difference is vast.

Any initial impressions from our Australian brethren/people who used a VPN to get it early?

I'm about to try that latter method.

Mouse acceleration is on by default and the FOV is something shitty that needs to be manually changed. Neither can be changed in game and attempts to change FOV in game fucks with your aim, making it significantly off center, you gotta do it via the ini files.

I used a VPN to get it. Overall impression is very positive.

    Good:

    -Better Gun-play, graphics, mechanics, etc.

    -People feel more real.

-Walking around Diamond city feels like walking around Megaton, but better. Even though it isn't too big, about the size of Riften it seems like, it feels lived in.

-Companions are more interesting than in FO3, can't say yet if they're better than NV. Better than Skyrim's for sure.

-Walking around, the world is dangerous and active. You'll hear things like gunfire in city areas, leaving it up to you to investigate.

-Unique encounters. There are Legendary monsters now that give super good loot. I just fought one, a giant super mutant named Swan. Two mininukes, so many bullets, and a kickass laser rifle later, I have myself a unique melee/unarmed weapon. Haven't checked it over yet.

    -More stuff, but I forget.

    Bad:

-Bugs. C'mon. One particularly annoying bug is not being able to pull out weapons, so you're stuck standing there for 2-10s hoping the enemies don't beat you too hard.

-UI. Feels un-intuitive to use. Can be quite annoying.

-People telling my character she's special. I don't want to here anything more about that unless it's an insult.

    Neutral:

-Crafting, seems useful but annoying. Settlements fall under the same branch.

Edit: Remembered one of the other positive things: The Diamond city Radio announcer is very bad. In a really great way. Worth listening to.

A bunch of tweaks (mainly uncapping FPS. Good lord I hate that Bethesda does that) here:

Goes without saying to avoid comments and other threads on Reddit/Steam if you want to avoid spoilers.

I was never able to connect to the Freedome Melbourne server, but I got onto a Warsaw one with no problems.

I bought the retail version of the game because my download speed is so crappy and still have to download 19 GB from steam just to play. How the fuck can piracy justify fucking over loyal gamers like this? Man I'm ticked.

Anyone who has trouble with start crashes like I was, and quite a few other people, play it in borderless windowed mode at your resolution. I like it better anyway - it doesn't cause alt-tab problems.

Edit: Windows mode from the standard launcher settings is wonky as shit as it only lets you have stupid ass resolutions. I bypassed it with the GeForce Nvidia Experience thingy - keeping all other settings as is but setting it at 1920x1080

So anyone want to bet on how long it takes for Iron man mods to show up? I'm thinking... a month for a high quality one.

Dunno. We don't know yet if this Fallout will be different than FO3 and NV w.r.t. mod interaction being buttfuck.

I'll take the over on a month, under on 2.

A red and gold retexture won't take long, I'm sure.

Well he said a high quality one, so not just taking power armor slapping on a quick red and gold texture.

I don't mean repainting power armor, I mean importing a fully functional lights and animation Iron Man suit with built in pew pew.

I'm having a hard time with the lip-sync of the characters.

Some are spot on and the others look mechanical. Every time they open their mouths I can't help but stare into the black abyss that's in there. I know it sounds petty but it's really throwing me off.

In the meantime, might just be easier for everyone's imagination to think that this is his first suit or Obediah's clunky monster. Very sure someone will do a roleplay run as Tony Stark -- power armour for all combat and pew-pew lasers pistols.

Loving the minute-man rifle even if mag cap is poor. That crank thing kills it for me.

It'd be interesting to see or hear what kind of characters others created. I wanted to create Lara Croft, but found there were no ponytails, and ended up creating Storm from X-Men.
