Clearly joking as I assume are a lot of people. There are always the die yards that prefer the author sacrifices their entire life to their work but most people know that's ridiculously unrealistic.

Another cool mod, this one adds more vanilla objects to the crafting list -- most of which really should've been there in the first place.

And here's a joke mod, for anyone else who often thinks of Heavy Rain while playing this game.

Hm, ended up restarting because I disliked my SPECIAL allocation. I basically ingore settlements so fuck charisma.

Level 30, finally about to hit Diamond City. Should have went way earlier, but I wanted to thoroughly explore everything. Hurrah save scumming with Idiot Savant >_>

I really like rifles. I should probably try some heavy weapons, though. I've gotten so many Fat Mans and Missile Launchers and ammo for them, but I've never shot one or thrown a single explosive. Just shoot shoot shoot. Stealth is also meh, I like to alert the entire area and make everyone rush to me so I can just pick them off. My build ended up being basically ultimate utility and crafting - locks, hacking, gun/armor mods, scrapper, scrounger, just rifleman for damage.

I think I'll rush the main story for a bit, get some new companions, unlock the factions. And try to find a Plasma weapon, lol.

Edit: and the Diamond City weapons merchant had a plasma pistol which I modified into a 200 damage rifle. Nice.

    So many quests tho.

I don't understand why notes and tapes are now under misc items. I've not read so many things just because I've forgotten their name by the time I get to the right menu. And when I look through everything I can't remember what I have read and what I haven't. Seems like a step back from 3 and NV that just shouldn't have happened.

Dunwich Borers has a good melee weapon at the end. Swan, from Swan's Pond, always gives the same Furious Power Fist. There's a quest involving the Forged that gives a Shishkebab, though I can't say how effective of a weapon it is. Do the Silver Shroud quest, make sure you look around for a certain outfit that gives +20% melee weapon damage, among other stats. For perks, BLITZ is really good. Combine it with Grim Reaper's Sprint. The damage resistance perk is pretty good, as well as the Stimpack improvement perk. You will be eating a lot of damage early on. Can't help much with big weapons.

I have a question about armor. What's the best armor in the game? Or rather, how many tiers of armor there are? From what I've gathered from various forums and google, it seems like leather, raider, metal, combat and synth all have three tiers, with every tier having different, more covering appearance and much higher stats. I just found my first second tier piece, I think. A leather leg that covers basically my entire leg with higher stats than my combat chest piece. My first second tier piece at level 33, eh?

So that's why I'm asking, are there really three tiers, for all the materials, and when do I start getting the third tier?

Oh, also, from screenshots, combat armor should be this green bulky set, while mine is white and plastic and very minimalistic, like synth armor. Is it because it's tier one or whatever?

The color change is based on the mods I believe. I have only used 2 mods on combat armor aside from standard though.

I have only seen named tiers for Synth armor, and Power Armour. So far as increased coverage coinciding with an increase in tier independent of mods, that seems reasonable, I have noticed it in the named Mark 1,2,3 Synth armour. I know there are level requirements for Power Amour that spawns, but am unsure whether or not other Armour follows a similar scheme or not. Vendor sold the Mark 2/3 armor for me, haven't seen it drop yet.

If you do Railroad faction quest chain you gain the ability to purchase clothes that can be modified to a decent standard of armour. So the strongest outside of Power Armour, appears to be modded T3 Synth Armour + Military Fatigues with Rank 5 ballistic weave.

This excludes Legendary modifiers of course, you can stack Racial damage reducers as high as 75% so far as I've seen(Chest+Armsx2+Legsx2).

I have only reached level 53 and have not completed the Minutemen or BoS faction chains. Focused on the Institute and Railroad until now.

That hot bitch raider look. Nice.

In other news, I discovered just how op the Gauss rifle is, 441 damage, fast semi-automatic with sniper range and accuracy.

    Of course.

Seems a bit silly to get tackled by a Deathclaw and come out of it without a set of scars on your face. I only made the mistake of letting a deathclaw get close once.

Pre-War with the wife/Nora. Designed her to look more like the photo from the intro.

Posing with the Power Armor. Hair styling and shaving are a bit lower on the priority list Post-War.

Spoilers for Minutemen and Cait quests below:

    I like Cait.

She's an excellent companion - she likes it when I'm a dick, when I pick locks, and when I take drugs, or drink booze. Considering I'm mixing my chems and taking all sorts of funky things like Psycho Jet, Bufftats, and the like, this is excellent.

In fact, taking drugs and picking locks got me to a high enough friendship with her that she gave me her loyalty quest - take her to Vault 95, and use the tech inside to help her get rid of her Psycho addiction.

We did it, no real difficulty, and left the vault. A legendary alpha deathclaw out of nowhere, so I pop my normal "OH SHIT" drugs, and get a swarm of "Cait disliked that" messages.

I was worried that this could be the end of me and my travelling companion, but I thought I owed her a few more quests.

We get to the Castle, and I finally finish Big Guns (I needed the extra perk to set up supply lines, so I could actually build an artillery piece). I throw the smoke grenade, and call in the strike.

    "Cait loves this"
    "Cait idolises you"

    "Hey, we need to talk".

So apparently Cait likes big explosions. Knowing what's coming, I trade the Minutemen equipment off her, and stick it on for the Charisma boost. I pass the flirt check, get the achievment, and get the girl.

I then trade her back the minutemen stuff, tell her to put it on, and fast travel back to Sanctuary to speak with Preston.

    "Cait likes this"

I was confused, but it turned out I hadn't put clothes or armour back on.

Cait likes it when you're not wearing anything, and this is true from the start. I read elsewhere that if you just walk around naked for half an hour, she hits max happiness from recruitment.

Also, companions don't need fusion cores to use power armour. Whilst they will break it quite quickly in comparison to you, I've found I never actually wear any PA, so it doesn't matter. I have a literal ton of steel from scrapping everything everywhere, so repairing low level PA isn't an issue

You also can force raiders to exit their PA by shooting out the FC, or by pickpocketing it. This way, you can get the frame without having to go and buy one. It does mean you need to sneak up on a raider in PA, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

Finally, local leader is incredibly useful. It allows you to mod weapons and armour wherever you go without any issues, and it allows you to have a actually functioning settlement, and then a bunch of ones you only use for trade routes. Given that the different settlements will trade away excess food and water, this gives you loads of settlers to work on scrapping benches.

Man I haven't gotten around to having human companions. I've just been travelling with Dogmeat, exploring and always getting distracted by the icons I haven't discovered.

I've heard that Nick is the best so far. How would compare him to Cait, in everything, especially usefulness.

None of the companions are useful beyond being immortal meat shields who carry your shit. Well, Nick can hack terminals and Cait can pick locks, but that's about it. The perks you get at max affinity range from barely useful to quite nice.

Nick is definitely one of the best companions character-wise, though. I've really enjoyed my time with Nick and surprisingly Piper, though I usually bring Cait, since I like to play ruthless characters.

I really want to like either of Piper or Nick, but their morality traits can be annoying--and I don't even steal all that much. Strong's the worst though. It sucks that I like him so much. In the end, Cait's the best happy-medium out of the bunch (and Dogmeat too).
