I suspect that the traps and puzzles and stuff are a gameplay conceit only. Notice that in the Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles, they skip right over that stuff in flashback scenes; everything proceeds in a (mostly) logical fashion and you aren't left wondering 'who the hell works in this building anyway?'. I wouldn't rule out 'for the lulz', though. Remember, in RE2 the Police Chief was deliberately turning the police station into a deathtrap so he could play The Most Dangerous Game.

This fic is funny... "big ol' sack o' the gold ones" line is lulz in concentrated form. Also, Tyrant has been updated.

Yup, Tyrant updated. There were a couple twists I wasn't expecting though.
I thought Harry was taken by Umbrella before he ever went to Hogwarts. Since he was taken after his first year, he won't have a fresh magical start going to school. It'll be interesting to see how the mutation interacts with working magic.

Lulz. For anyone following Cult of Potter...

    Spoilers, seriously.

In the latest chapter, Harry just punished Remus's spying by sending him on a suicide mission - which was successful in that the goal was achieved AND Remus died.

AND he placed Sirius under house arrest with orders that his wand should be confiscated if he caused trouble.

AAAAND he questioned Snape, rooted through all of the useful info from his mind, then choked him to death with his bare hands after Snape admitted that his only regret was not 'getting' Lily.

Harry's kind of hardcore for someone whose 'power he knows not' seems to make him virtually useless with a wand.

This is a next gen fic. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4380964/1/Albus_Potter_and_the_Dungeon_of_Merlins_Mist

This one covers ASP's first year, but there are sequels up until the 4th year, which is a WIP.

It is pretty enjoyable, if you like this genre, but it suffers from spelling errors and the mousiest, most uninteresting love interest in the history of fiction (ok, that's hyperbole, but not much). Still, it deserves a mention in this thread.

    Willoway by GreenWood_Elf

This is kinda a crossover fic- HP and the Wicker Man.

Trainee-Auror Tonks is sent to the isolated isle of Willoway to work with a muggle investigator, trying to uncover the source of some crimes involving mutilated livestock.

I like it for the immersive style and believable characters. The islanders are appropriately spooky and it reads well as a suspense story. Still in progress, but the author has been writing for a while; I have faith that she'll finish this.

That Boy is Trouble by Andrew Joshua Talon

Privet Drive is home to many secrets, many lies... And many sexually frustrated women. As Harry Potter soon finds out. WARNING - LIME but nothing graphic.. after all it's FF.NET but still thought i should mention it.

Amusing. Nothing serious just something to read for lulz. Although the comment about enthusiasm but poor aim had me snickering for a minute.

On a side note. Not sure if i'm using the search function properly. I searched to make sure i'm not recommending something that has already been mentioned but i just get a bunch of posts with none of they keywords i used. Searched for threads and for posts, just wanted to let people know i did search but either i missed it or i'm not using the search properly.

Yeah, it was mentioned back in Feb. Do a search of the thread with "Boy is Trouble". BAM.

There are a couple of clichés, but nothing extravagant. The last few chapters are very lulzy though. There's a reason it's M rated.

I first thought to make a review, but it simply doesn't worth the trouble. This fiction deserves dramatic reading, no less. I'll share the fun. (Ellipses in the quotes mean irrelevant parts were cut out, /commentary/ - commentary)

Setup: the end of the 5th year, stand-off at the King's Cross station.
Chapter 1. Harry Potter runs away Indiana Jones-style. He knocks down Vernon, Dudley, and Daedalus Diggle without even using magic.
    Chapter 2. Typical passages:
I feel adventurous, thus, coming up next: chapter 3.
Edit: read the post below... o_o ... o_O ... O_O ... OK I reconsider. This fic rocks! Are there perchance any dinosaurs? With dinosaurs it's 5/5!

So it starts off as your typically average somewhat kinky H/Hr Indy story, with a side of Incompetent!Dumbledore and flavorings of Remus/Tonks and Lord of Black, lopsided grins all around, and then suddenly, with no warning at all....

... Harry becomes a fucking pirate king and is now making time with his entourage in Bermuda and seems to be getting ready to plunder PUREBLOOD MERCHANT FLEETS!

Seriously, if it wasn't for the title I'd think the author just randomly got a wild hair up his ass and said "Fuck this Indy Harry Bullshit, I wanna write about pirates!"

The sheer surreal preposterousness of it makes it almost library worthy.

^ Same here. Will report back with comment.

    EDIT :

Yeah, was unable to shake off the first few chapters, and the interaction with Hermione, her parents, Tonks... basically everyone in the fic.

This fic suffers from the classic H/Hr syndrome of author laziness : 'they've been in love all along so I don't need to build the romance, only have Hermione's mum drop anvil-sized (see what I did there?) hints on both Harry and Hermione.'

As the romance is rather a large part of the story, the fail of it is not easily overcome (or is it overcame ?).

The attempts at kinky sexual situations are awkward at best.

It also suffers from a lot the usual Runaway!Indy!Harry clichés, as Alexeyy pointed out.

So after reading chaps 1-3 carefully, skimming over the next 4-5, I called it a day and closed the tab.

Probably just before the pirate moment, too, but I had no enthusiasm left.

tl;dr : even Pirate!Harry is not worth it. Go back to reading Tinn Tam's "Drink up, me hearties !"

Harry Potter and the Cursed Summer » reviews After being cruelly abandoned by the Dursley’s, Harry meets Bill and joins him on a Crusebreaking Adventure. Bill mentors Harry fic no slash. First FF Starts off a bit dark but lightens up quickly. R&RHarry Potter - Rated: T - English - Adventure/Humor - Chapters: 11 - Words: 29,873 - Reviews: 161 - Updated: 5-20-10 - Published: 4-22-10 - Harry P. & Bill W.

This one is fairly interesting. Set between the summer of the 3rd and 4th year, it features Harry tromping through Ecuador with Bill Weasley and other curse breakers looking for a key to Atlantis.

Pro: Unique storyline. So far no real bashing (Bill thinks Ron is lazy - but Ron is concerned about Harry). Author states that Dumbledore may not always agree with Harry's decisions - but will remain allied to him. It's actually fun to read about Harry exploring the jungle and going through traps.

Cons: Harry is uber. Seriously, the Flamels willed to Harry a potion of instant!win. That part isn't cool. The grammar is decent - but not incredible.

I wouldn't recc this to the library yet - but it does make for a fun read.

Sounds awfully familiar. Will edit this post if anything comes up worth mentioning beyond that.

It's fun, and unlike Bungle in the Jungle is written with a tolerable perspective. =\

It definitely has a bunch of cliches, but the story is sound, even with the 8+ OCs that are involved. I'm kind of curious how the discoveries and semi-super Harry will adapt to normal Hogwarts life though. And whether the story actually reaches the second expedition.
