Read through the entirety of what's up for Aspiring to Greatness... He gets wings... And the writing is nowhere near Blood-Tipped Feather which could get away with that.

Haha, point taken. I'll consider this one to be the exception that proves the rule :)

I'd rate this Almost Recommended. Although a good idea, the plot twists are a bit too many and mostly come out of nowhere. A good way to kill 10 minutes.

Loved the ending of Tangled, didn't care too much for the rest.

At the moment, I don't think this is good enough for the library, what with the Dragonists and the 'uber-training' that Harry receives. Not much focus is put on the training, and the Archon part hasn't come up yet, so I guess that's something in its favour.

I haven't seen this idea before - and that's enough for me to keep watching it. The story is most like Grimm: A Fairy's Tale for me, although the two are quite different.

I liked it, but I'm not sure how many of you will. If the style of writing didn't exacerbate my headache, I'd give the story 4/5. As it stands, 2.5/5.

There once was a man who wrote a book about a 'Lost World' hidden deep within the Earth where magic and science coexisted. What if that book was made real? There is a hidden city beneath the sands, and at its center is a power identical to the All-Spark.

In case no one could tell, this is a HP/Transformers crossover. WaitWaitWait Don't stop reading yet...

I honestly don't remember how I found this, but with 3 chapters up it's a pretty okay read. As of the third chapter, there's been less plot advancement and more plot introduction. The premise is that Harry(?) possesses powers similar to the All-Spark and has created a hideaway city for all the neutral factions. Kinda iffy summary, I know, but that's why there's an "Almost Recommended" thread, eh?

Not stellar yet, but I feel like it could go places - good places.

    I found a HP/LL oneshot that I didn't absolutely hate.

    http://www.harrypotterfanfiction.com/viewstory.php?chapterid=245704

    Forgetting Alone
Post-HBP. After Bill and Fleur's wedding, Harry goes off to brood alone. Luna has other plans.
    Chapters: 1
    Characters: Harry, Luna
    Genre(s): Drama, General, Romance
    Era: Hogwarts
    Pairings: Harry/Luna

I read it on the above site, but afterwards I did find it at ff.net

It was a cute fluffy story, both characters were written well, but you do kind of wish the fic was longer. I would say it is 4/5.

yep there are some good ones out there, but not all that much epic-length.
Luna is well written in that one-shot.

    Harry... not so much

    also
    I lol'd @ that.

A Harry/Daphne fic. Closer to the almost average part of the thread title, not library worthy but still readable. Written well enough with decent sized chapters but there's nothing particularly special about it.

There are out of character Dursleys in there so be warned, it is explained in there though.

I read this last night. To be honest - it's at most a 2-star story. To me - it reads like Radaslab-lite. Thankfully there are no preposterous harems and the wizarding world doesn't revolve around concubines and slaves. However, the story is so different from canon, it almost doesn't feel like I'm reading a HP story.

The characterization for virtually every character is at the least slightly off. The Weasleys are believable, Harry kinda makes sense, but the Dursleys and Narcissa really really strain the credibility of the reader. Oh, she's in one little scene, but I already hate Malfoy's little sister.

The story doesn't feel like it takes place post-OotP. According to the author, Voldemort and the Death Eaters only attack blood traitor pure-bloods and well-known muggleborns in the middle of the night in ambushes. While the OotP is apparently worried in the background - it's apparently hunky dory for everyone else.

The Dee Academy, or whatever it's called, is a fucking school of Mary-Sues. Seriously, the school itself is a mary-sue. It's a nice concept - but the author seriously needs to moderate how "superiorly awesome" the Dee Academy is to Hogwarts.

The one concept I did like though, was the Surrey beast society. Dudley being a member is a stretch - but I did like the idea of wizards, witches and squibs getting drunk at bars and then going out looking for critters.

    2/5 at most.

I actually enjoyed it up until chapter 5 and 6 when the author decided to say, "Fuck it! The Harry Potter Universe just isn't interesting enough. I'm going to make up a lot of really boring crap so people fall asleep at their computers."

    ZZZzzzzzzzz.

The thing that did surprise me wasn't that there was a magical school that dwarfed Hogwarts in every conceivable way, but that it wasn't located in Japan. WTF! Everyone knows that's where the good schools are!

So, enjoy chapters 1-4, but then quit and save yourself an hour of saying, "It's got to get better. Maybe the next paragraph... or the one after.

I couldn't get past the second chapter with enjoyment. There was nothing original about chapter 1 at all. I'm sure it probably gets better, but the way Harry and Daphne hooked up was terrible. Daphne ambushes Harry, Harry learns that she fancies him, Harry asks her out to date. In the same hour. Hermione's character was annoying, but believable I suppose. I just don't like her when she manages to figure out everything, especially when it is done in the first chapter of the story. Her prophecy logic was retarded as well. And then their was the obligatory grief-councilor!Hermione and the realization that nobody really like Dumbledore or Malfoy.

But granted, it is well written, but there was nothing to hook me in. I don't mind cliches, but cliches don't hook you in. I doubt the Dee Academy stuff will either, I don't read HP for what Harry learns in class, but rather how he uses what he learns on class on his adventures. I would say it is a perfect story for this thread.

Maybe I am just griping preemptively, but I will probably finish this eventually, just since I am bored.

I like it. It looks like it's going to be manipulative Dumbledore and the difference between a typical soulmate story and this life-debt angle isn't that great, but the story is well written and a good way to spend some time. Recycling Bin worthy in my opinion.
