Now i like the story that quote came from, but it seems like darned near anyone that has Harry trip/fall in the floo/portkay uses the same canned response.

 

Oh, dear...is this ever the topic for me. Brace yourselves, boys and girls.

* Poor grammar or spelling. As a general rule, if I see more than one or two errors in the story's profile, I won't bother reading it.

* Overpairing, or this strange idea that everybody at Hogwarts suddenly needs to have a boyfriend or girlfriend. If I'm reading a story about Harry, I really don't give a damn about who Neville Longbottom's girlfriend is, or that he has one, thank you very much. And this leads me into my next point...

* Uberslash, or the concept of suddenly making every male character in the canon universe gay. I have a hard enough time buying it for just Harry, as his long standing obsession with Cho Chang certainly lends to the conclusion that he is strictly heterosexual. Creating a whole bunch of extra slash pairings on top of one with Harry and generally turning Hogwarts into a huge sausage factory just doesn't work.

* And now to my biggest pet peeve, overused concepts and/or plot devices, including but not limited to:

- Azkaban!Harry

- Abusive!Dursleys (I unequivocally loathe this one, as Harry is a powerful wizard, and isn't going to be beaten and raped by some ****ing fat Muggle pig like Vernon Dursley)

- Harry getting a pet snake

- Harry getting a magical trunk

- Harry having a phoenix for his Animagus form

- the Harry/Ginny pairing (hardy har har)

- Evil and Manipulative!Dumbledore (how anybody can actually justify making Albus Dumbledore evil is beyond me)

- Jackass!Ron (I don't like him that much either, but he redeemed himself quite nicely in the fifth book)

- Cho bashing (if you ever want to immediately get on my bad side, just do this)

- Bringing Sirius back from the afterlife

- Making Neville a powerful wizard

- Making Draco a powerful wizard (or a sex god, or real cunning Slytherin, or generally anything other than the spineless little wastrel that he is in canon)

...There are probably a lot more that escape me at the moment, but this is a good enough list to get started with.

 

Perhaps I phrased that badly. What I meant by a manipulative Dumbledore is one who maliciously acts in order to further his own agenda at Harry's expense, or at the expense of others. I'll admit that as good a person as I think Albus generally is, he does manipulate to a certain degree. All leaders have to be able to do so. However, he always has Harry's best interests at heart in everything that he does in canon, and has a genuine concern for the wizarding world. The type of Dumbledore characterization that I can't stand is one who is basically Voldemort under a kinder, gentler veneer and with a slightly different vision. I can't see anything in the canon at all that could even begin to justify the old man being protrayed that way. I mean, Harry doesn't identify himself as aligned on Dumbledore's side in either of my two fics, but that doesn't make the old man a bad person or anything.

And for the other point, yeah. Draco664's Harry/Cho fics essentially rank among the Great Books in the realm of Harry Potter fanfiction. They still rank as probably the best stories I've ever read, though my major Harry/Cho shippage helps contribute to that opinion.

 

I think we'd all forgotten to mention the "buy of a trunk" lol. I can't believe I missed that.

Everytime I see a author who devotes almost a whole chapter to trunk buying I want to kill them.


The ones where he goes into the shop and finds a 1,000 year old trunk owned by Slytherin, or one of his relatives it's even worse.

 

i want one of those trunks but yea they put too much times in those......but if they want to spent so much time on the trunk just have him make one by himself

I would never do that, either. No sir, no Harry-exclusive chaotic magic in my fics. None whatsoever.

 

he would do it as practice..... i mean how meny different subject in magic would go into makeing a trunk. theres charms, transfigeration(sp), DADA(protection spells), and if you want maybe dark arts(protection spells)and self disiplane for actully makeing the trunk out of wood and it would be a comfident buster

If I see ONE MORE AUTHOR use the freaking BAT BOGEY HEX as a reason Ginny is so "feared" I will personally beat them to death with a tea cozy. (Ravenclaw confiscated my tea cup, but he foolishy left me the cozy, FEAR!)

If the skinny, annoying little, twit is in another story where 20%+ of her total lines in the story involve using that phrase or talking about it so help me Merlin. Yes you get bats in your face, hahaha. Avada her ass and get over it.

Better yet turn her inside and beat her with her own entrails. Make a real reason to fear someone authors who use this. Having boogers turn into bats to attack you is not fearful, its a stupid prank.
