Its pretty private for me, my brother knows about it though. Feels pretty awkward talking about it but I did find out my ex was reading fanfiction, and I casually ask what she reads about, she said band slash.....I didn't bring up fanfiction again.

Everyone just thinks that I play computer games all the time, so I let them think that.

I would feel kinda embarrassed if I had to talk about reading fanfiction. hell I barely even talk about Harry Potter to others. Feels weird having a conversation about imaginary characters and stuff.

    So yeah, no one knows.

Last night my girlfriend finds my Magical Joys fic right, and instead of laughing and humiliating me she tells me she's been reading for a few years, particularly Marauder era (fuck you guys, probably my favourite era). I give her a fic recommendation and now it's all better than ever.

    Fangirls brah, go figure.

A dumb one at that, fuck that Marauder era bullshit.

That bullshit aside, props(I guess...) to having a relationship in which you can now openly discuss fanfiction.

    Crazy.

So, I think DLP should help you out by offering your GF some :awesome Marauder-era fics. I'm sure they'll all be unswervingly plausible as well.

I'll start off, mkay? Here's a gem I've been meaning to get round to. Or maybe I just stumbled across this on the first page of FF.net:

    7. Between Constellations and Dreams » by xoxcrescentmoonxox reviews Lily’s life is a series of ups and downs, of laughter and tears - but always, she pushes on. So does everyone else. Features James, Severus, Petunia, Sirius, Peter, Remus, Caradoc, Dorcas, Marlene, Gideon, Fabian, McGonagall, Dumbledore. 100 snapshots.Rated: T - English - Friendship/Family - Chapters: 98 - Words: 51,376 - Reviews: 868 - Updated: 12-23-09 - Published: 7-17-09 - Lily Evans P. & James P.

That'll keep your girl busy for a few hours; no need to thank me! Or if she'd like a quickie, there's always this eye-catching nugget:

    8. Kidnapped! by TorchHunter Lily and James are kidnapped by some strange people. Who are these weirdos and what do they want!Rated: K - English - Humor/Romance - Chapters: 1 - Words: 1,039 - Published: 12-23-09 - James P. & Lily Evans P. - Complete

Again, no thanks are necessary; we at DLP are here to help our fellow man, amirite?

Seriously though, it could be kinda cool as long as she doesn't start wanting you to read her favorite Harry/Severus slash fic. Will we know you're whipped when you start writing an epic Marauders-era fic now?

Cheers Portus, but I gave her some of Tinn's recs so she should be good enough for now.

    Redeye: Fuck you, Marauders rule.

Jblaise: Yeah man, yet to figure out which one.

    Private, of course.

Two of my closest friends read or used to read fanfiction, but they're not avid readers like me. One of them still gets on HPFF occasionally, but she sticks strictly to canon: won't read any of the "obscure" pairings like Harry/Fleur or Harry/Luna. Gets rather disgusted actually. The other doesn't really read anymore, but she's the one who got me into it (I started with HPFF). She dabbled in writing for a bit, but mostly stuck to reading Marauders fics.

Anyway, they're 'nerds', but I'm also friends with the 'jocks', and I'd never consider telling them I read fanfiction. They think I'm odd already, lol. Plus, no one gets why I talk about the Harry Potter characters as if they are real people. Like in Brit Lit, I was arguing about Twilight and how much it pissed me off, and they were like, "You do know they are fictional characters, right?" Grr.

Private if I told my friends they would either laugh or get a group of guys and jump me.

It's not exactly private, but doesn't really come up that often either. A lot of my closest friends are avid readers of stuff like Wheel of Time, etc. though, so I do occasionally recommend some fanfiction to them as an alternative to the HP books (which none of them really like). Only yesterday, I was recommending the Denarian series to a good friend of mine, though since he just got a set of books 1-9 of WoT, I don't know if he will look into it yet. It's not something I would bring up outside of a select circle, but if it did come up, it's not exactly embarrassing or anything...

    Yeah... Private. Really. Just, private.

Few years ago I'm finding out about fanfiction, I find a lot of stories I like and make an account on ff.net. Start making some stories of my own, add favorites to my list.

One day while me and some friends were talking, I casually mentioned I read fanfiction; now, all my friends knew I had a minor obsession with HP, and they decided to check out my account (which I gave them, idiot).

    It didn't go too well.

Next day my friends have spread it across half the wing and I'm a laughing stalk. My teacher eventually finds out, checks it out...

    Suspension. Fucking suspension.

Something about poisoning young minds with such vulgar and inapropriate literature. I wasn't really listening. Then they told me parents, suggested I get a therapist, and ka-boom! I'm mute, never spoke a word of it again, and I still haven't lived it down.

Hahahahahaha! You know what we call that over here?

    A BURN!

Reminds me of the time a chick got an abortion at my high school and someone found the doctors papers then proceeded to photocopy them and pin them up all over the school. That's so brutal man... but what stories did you have favourited?

I really don't care who knows about it since my mom decided to tell my grandma, the world's biggest gossip, who then told my whole family on both sides.

My cousins then tried to spread it around school, but I took care of it by threatening to kick their ass if they said anything else. The principal called me into his office because one of the teachers heard me threaten then. I got on campus supension which was fun I bassically read a book all day.

If I am reading a good fic I won't hesitate to bitch and complain to anyone who will listen when my mom forces me to go to the store or go buy her cigarettes.

One time we went to walmart and I was trying to explain the current fic i was reading and a random girl asks if I was refering to fanfiction. That had to be the most random experience since I started reading. We ended up talking and we both recommended some fics to each other. Turned out she was a Harry/Snape shipper. I ignored her e-mails she sent me.

Wow, ya, that sounds a bit excessive. Did you perchance spice the story up a bit? cause that sounds like some pretty massive overkill.

I hate when that happens, though the first other person I met who read fanfiction was a slasher too... she became my best friend for the next two years >_>. But yeah, I've met five people who read fanfiction (excluding those who I've dragged into the fold) and four of them were slash fans. Seems like we're outnumbered. D:

As far as I'm concerned, Fanfiction is very private. Only my brother knows about it and he threatened last time to tell mum about it because he somehow stumbled across a HP/DM slash story I clicked on unaware.

Of course, I just pointed out that it was accidental and that the same could not be said about his lesbian pictures... I take great pleasure in making him sweat about me telling mum about what he really does at night when he locks himself in the computer room.

My dear mother is just clueless. What kind of parent doesn't know that his 24 years old son masturbates at night?

Assuming "what kind of parent" refers to your mother, I'd say that your family may have issues beyond a little nighttime fapping.
